Missing on holiday

I don’t think many well-known people are reported as missing. I hope Michael Mosley, missing on holiday in Greece, is found soon, alive and kicking.

I really enjoy his shows. Hope he’s okay. I don’t think Symi is a large island compared to some of it’s neighbours in the Dodecanese.

A bit shocking, hope he is found ok but as they said they should have found him by now.

Well that is just one thing that you can do, get found.
Let’s hope he is found safe and well.

I heard the tail end of this on the news but I thought it was him talking about someone else that’s missing.

I do listen to his programmes, but equally good are the excellent impressions of him on Dead Ringers. I imagine he gets a kick out of the mickey take too.

Hoping for a good outcome.

Still nothing after widening the search, I hope they find something.

On Today this morning, it sounded like they were preparing us for bad news, with talk of cliffs and a heatwave.

Visited Symi many years ago and was warned not to go up into the hills without good hiking gear, a phone and a lot of water.

That an apparently intelligent chap left his phone behind when he set off doesn’t bode well.

I hope there are caves on Symi and he took shelter from the heat in one with water. He may have twisted an ankle and is lying waiting for someone to think cave.

Let’s hope so.

Never heard of him but I hope he’s ok.

It seems CCTV has him at a cafe prior to going for his walk, wonder if he was feeling ill then under the sun as he had a parasol?

It’s possible bits of info known to the teams are not getting through the reports - the CCTV was about 20 mins after he left the beach, so presumably he got to the town. However we know that he left his mobile in the accommodation that he was using so, presumably, got back there and set off again (at least, that’s how I’m reading it - we haven’t been told if he had his mobile when he left the beach or, indeed, a parasol).

If we assume there is evidence that he got to his accommodation, and then left again I’m not sure that CCTV of him in the town helps, though it does confirm that he got that far so attempts to find him on or off the path from the beach to the town are not as likely to yield results.

As it gets longer the likelihood of a successful outcome is fading.

It does all seem very strange, as everything I’ve read from him, or watched, I would say he advocates ‘sensible approaches’, but going out hiking in those temperatures in that unshaded landscape does seem a little extreme, and especially without a phone. If he’s been out there for a few days in that climate I really can’t see a happy outcome here, but would be delighted to be proved wrong obviously.

He was seen on CCTV passing a restaurant located around the point of the red arrow, as reported by the Guardian. I agree that for someone who is seen to be a sensible & intelligent man - he is a doctor - to start trekking away from that harbour area under intense, possibly hazardous heat, would be out of character.

He is a proponent of intermittent fasting, meaning that he may not have eaten anything that morning and into the mid-afternoon. A unwanted side-effect of intermittent fasting is dehydration which could lead to weakness & dizziness.

I hope luck is with him.

Journalistic crap! Fasting (food) has nothing to do with fluid intakes which you do not reduce and in fact increase when intermittent fasting.

WTF

BBC has “new CCTV” purportedly showing Moselely in Padi around 2PM

It doesn’t look like CCTV to me - unless CCTV cameras suddenly zoom in on an individual and track their movement.

It’s from a handheld camera (the image shakes a lot as well contributing to that impression), but why would anybody film a random person walking.

Breakdown of sugars produces CO2 and water. This is why you should increase fluid intake when fasting as you point out.

Sounds a bit like some of those crackpot Lord Lucan sightings. They caught John Stonehouse because they thought he was Lord Lucan!
