Motorcycle trailer hire ONE WAY

I had planned to do that and even made sure that my double axle ‘garden’ trailer was long enough. However the reality is that the dedicated trailer is so much better and easier to use, the lower height and built in ramp being the obvious advantages. It comes with two rails but I usually use it with one of them fastened in the centre position. I now have a custom made support on another rail for this thing to stand on and proper anneaux d’arrimage for the sangles.

Mine can carry two large bikes but my priority was to keep it below 500kg so it doesn’t need a GG or it’s own insurance.

The really fancy ones have a built in folding loading ramp.

Mine has. The spine folds.

Yes agreed but the OP wanting to hire suggests they will not be doing this regularly.

Have we managed to answer the question - can one actually hire a motorbike trailer/carrier ?? (be it one or both ways)

I have asked him where he is at the moment. I’m quite close to La Rochelle and would have considered lending him mine for the round trip. He hasn’t answered so I guess he’s not in LR.

I’ve never seen them for hire. I also know that, ‘I need to borrow a trailer’ is a frequent request on local motorcycle FB pages. I think that a few people have mentioned the easy solution, I imagine a lot of people use vans. Everybody in rural France (except me) seems to have a van.

I’ve just googled “Location remorque moto” and this is what comes up

I suggest you take a look at driiveme with particulsr attention to one way van rentals and bring the kit that Notalot suggests

To those who have kindly contributed, hiring a van is out of the question. To David, I will be driving down ex Newhaven, as usual: 90 days 90 days, and the Belgium registerd bike is in Belgium and must be brought to la Rochelle but I’m going to have to abandon the purchase because in order to register it in France it must be registered and the vendor wants the plate back as soon as I get it safely to France. I’m buggered. Might have to buy one in the UK and wait for the 6 months and resident rule. Shame. Great bike.

Seems I don’t know how to reply to each individual, kind contributor.

Thanks. Still non the wiser.

Can’t do that as my big trailer is in la Rochelle … where I’m heading.

About as much as the bike … and my trailer is in la Rochelle but that’s the destination ex UK via Belgium.

That was the plan but unless I can find a trailer up north either in Belgium or the Belgian French border I am going to have to abort as it has to get to la Rochelle with it’s Belgian plate on it to commence the change of registration process and once started I have to mail the plate back to the vendor.

Can’t ride it down because it’s too cold and my wife doesn’t drive (the car or even a bicycle … and she’s Chinese).

Best,

Shaun

Driving down from the UK in my car. My trailer is in la Rochelle.

Quotes for delivery were bonkers.

A train from La Rochelle to Belgium. Ride the bike down. Post the Belgian plate back and start the registration process through ANTS. Much easier than importing a U.K. bike later.
