Hope you recover quickly, flu being especially nasty.
Probably introduced to SF by @SuePJ, whoās just returned from Spain with a bug.
Think Iāll disinfect my computerā¦
Sorry to hear that. My friend Nico has it and it sounds very unpleasant.
Used to get both in my garden in SA - several different species of tortoise - itās illegal to touch them, but Iād always stop and move one if it was on the road - though certainly wouldnāt do that with a big leguan.
Oh no Tory, get well soon.
So sorry Tory, take care. My remedy is hot lemon, honey and grated ginger drink (juice of half a squeezed lemon, good inch or so of ginger root grated and honey to taste, top up a mug with hot water), keep stirring as you drink it so that you drink the ginger bits and any lemon flesh.
Paracetamol for the temperature.
Be kind to yourself - flu takes its toll.
Can I also stress the importance of a proper convalescence? We donāt do that so often nowadays, but itās important. Even allowing yourself une petite sieste each day will help restore your energy.
Also, hereās some medical advice: Redirecting...
And donāt forget to add a slug of whisky get well soon @toryroo
@toryroo
Flu is abs horrible Iāve had it twice and the last time 1990 floored me for a couple of days. My go to cure too is Whisky with Aspegic 1000, drinking plenty of water (this is my modern method updated from my mothers when I was young, sheād send me to bed when I had the slightest sniffle with a Beechams power mixed with whisky). From a more medical point of view, best being, drink plenty of water and eat /drink a good soup full of meat & veg & not forgeting the garlic in the mix would be better.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I can really sympathise @toryroo as I came down with the flu just after the new year and it really knocked me for six. It seemed to last forever and on top of it I got a chest infection, which almost always happens when I get the flu, and now have acute bronchitis. Not a great start to 2025 but Iām starting to feel a lot better now.
Thatās exactly what Iāve been doing. Just before bed, Iāve added a glug of whiskey to the mix . Also, has to be fresh ginger, ground ginger is just too harsh.
I am so sorry that you have had such a miserable start to the New Year.
Because I live a long way from my doctor I now have antibiotics at home in case, like yourself, I develop a chest infection after having a cold.
I only take them if I am starting to bring up infected gunge from my lungs. It helps so much if I can start treatment asap.
We have not lit our woodburner for several years now as the particulates generated would start chest infections.
We keep mainly to ourselves in the winter to protect me from infections as my lungs are so vulnerable.
Thanks for all your well wishes! Feeling much better today with no fever after 3 days of between 38.5c and 39?5c!! Still not 100% but being fever free makes such a difference! I so rarely get sick it was a shock so Iām happy it has been quite short!
The fever bit may have been short but the evil thing with flu is if you donāt continue resting and drinking and beings sensible for a bit the virus will still be there. Going back to work once fever dropped was how I ended up in hospital with double pneumonia.
Thatās a good point, Jane⦠rushing back too soon into the swing of things when one is feeling better, can sometimes be the worst thing to do!
A freezing Friday, 27th December nearly finished me off
and Iām still struggling⦠one day I feel better, the next day I feel worseā¦
From reading other posts here, it seems many of us are suffering one way or anotherā¦
fingers crossed weāll all feel (and be) better soon !!!
Very true. I will rest as much as I can over the weekend other than catching up with the washing. I have to go back to work on Monday though as it is the last week of my contract!
Sadly so does cooking a breakfast and vacuuming your home only considerably more than the woodburner. I know, I have tested this 4 times in different houses of family and friends. Vacuuming your home causes health issues would not make a good headline but its true even with a hepa filtered vacuum.
Donāt be completely certain - check how you are doing Sunday night/Monday morning.
How did I miss this thread, I am here every day for goodnessā sake.
So too late to commiserate or wish you better, so please take that as read, but one small piece of advice.
Although many of us here may have enjoyed the mind picture, please donāt
barely get out of bed
Put something on, itās winter here.
Only just spotted this @toryroo so a belated āGet Well Soonā from us!
At the risk of being repetitive, I shall reiterate what others have said about resting - even if it is the last week of your contract
