Many people in Cussy don’t seem to have their own bins, but deposit their bags in a collection of large communal wheelie bins by the church.
Great rubbish (they would say garbage) technology, but no TGV.
And ours is nothing like yours!
Orange bag in a small bin provided by the commune for anything that doesn’ t go in the other designated places. This is the source of endless high-level, highly informed debate chez nous -
“You should put that dirty paper towel in there - it says so on that piece of paper they gave us”.
“Nonsense, it’ll get recycled as cardboard or something.”
“But the marie said..”
" When I was sixteen (admittedly over fifty years ago) after completing my ‘O’ levels, I worked for a week in a paper recycling facility - I know about these things."
We also have a large reusable bag provided by the commune for paper and plastic things, that then get transferred to a large bin that we share with a few neighbours (though I see many locals using them for shopping on the market).
And the rest goes to the compost or the déchetterie where there’s no limit to visits and everyone is super helpful.
Simple, huh?
Gratefull to Sue, called into see the Marie and arranged a compliant bin for €15 job done
Legendary (Pink floyd) saxophonist Dick Parry breathed his last this morning. Shine on…
Sad news. His sound was amazing.
Dave Gilmour said
"My dear friend Dick Parry died this morning.
"Since I was seventeen, I have played in bands with Dick on saxophone, including Pink Floyd.
"His feel and tone make his saxophone playing unmistakable, a signature of enormous beauty that is known to millions and is such a big part of songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Us and Them and Money.
"He played in the last band I had that included Rick Wright for the On An Island Tour and at Live 8 with Pink Floyd.
“Here are some pictures of him, including one of him and me playing for the ABC Minors at the Victoria Cinema in Cambridge in 1963.”

My son filled up the family car just over the border in Spain on Sunday evening at €1,42/litre for 95 unleaded. Here, it’s anything from €2,10 - €2,30 for the same. How is that right?? Have a horrible feeling too once this problem is resolved, the government are not going to let prices return to pre-Iran conflict price either as they have now seen people will pay what they have to.
£161 in the UK, but it is driving the EV market a bit more
Yes, a sneaky way to get folks to go EV. A lot of us older single folks just cannot afford to buy new vehicles on our pensions and certainly would not entertain a used EV. I think my car might last my driving days out as its regularly serviced and has only done 43,000 kms from when I got it brand new in 2012
To be fair I don’t think Trump started the Iran war in order to boost EV sales - he hates green energy and is backed by the fossil fuel industry!
Once upon a time you would have been right - but I think these days a used EV (with a modern battery) can be a good option - others know more about this than I do. And they are heading into the “more affordable” region.
And ironically that might be the most eco-friendly option, assuming you dont; do a big mileage!
Exactly my position, apart from my much high mileage before I retired from my Europe wide dog delivery days.
I may be wrong ,but I don’t think the government here directly controls the price. Sure, they may sneak in more taxes as the underlying price of crude softens, but we’ll know about it, even if we can’t do much about it.
Then the riots will start again no doubt.
Not these days and being a stranger down here, am very reluctant to go where I have never been before. Public transport is very good here and there is a stop for both directions five mins up the road. Think I will just run her into the ground now as it’s a small car. My son is doing the same with the Fiesta bought a year after I got my car but obviously done a lot more kms as it’s his work car and the family car before the kids arrived. Talking of cars, my daughter sent me photos last night of a visit to the Corvette museum yesterday afternoon just over the border in Kentucky and the story of the sink hole which swallowed up some very expensive previous models on show. There is a big grill over the hole and an app you scan to see the story. The whole area up there was coal mines previously.

RIP Sonny Rollins. He lasted well for a jazz musician 96!
Oh yes but amazing folks all over that part of the south, kind and helpful
Indeed, but with one notable exception, J.D. Vance. ![]()
