Oh crikey Trump

“There have also been reports Trump could turn the sod at the site of the planned new US embassy in Ballsbridge”.

One sod turning another. It’s just down the road from my apartment and it would only be a gentle five minute stroll to pop down and shout abuse at him. Which I’d really like to do :slightly_smiling_face: But sadly I don’t expect to be there on the 12th Though i might change my plans.

There is a really strong Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign (of which one is naturally a member :slightly_smiling_face:) Which will do a good job on the day. And I hope the Irish President snubs him. She could say she’s washing her hair or something trivial like that:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I am presently reading a SF book called The Project by Johnny Moscato. The book is a bit silly and rubbish as an example of the genere, but it lays out quite clealy (imo) the problems created by capitalism and especially ‘The American Way’. It was written pre-Trump, but he would fit in perfectly. If he were made aware of its existence, it would be banned, I’m sure.

David Allen Green has a new article out about the orange one’s case against the Beeb. As expected, he’s in a bit of a bind over disclosure. This wasn’t hard to predict, even I saw it coming when he filed the lawsuit.

An excellent article. Thank you for posting the link. Seemingly the bully has met his match in the form of the BBC. Well done Auntie.

“Trump is currently stuck, for this is what happens when others refuse to give into bullying.”

That’s the important point. We(the EU) need to just tell him to sod off. No amount of pandering to him will suffice. Ultimately we need to just say no, better sooner (it’s already way too late IMO) than never.

It’s illustrative off the way Trump (doesn’t) think and operates. As David Allen Green says, Trump is not a strategic thinker. He doesn’t look down the ride and plan a route. Trump’s tactics seem to be all front; bully, threaten and bluster - my guns are bigger than yours. It’s his continued tactic with Iran. He has no other modus operandi. He’s cornered himself and going nowhere, all of his own doing. None so stupid as those that won’t learn.

And, as you say, stuck is where he has gotten with Iran. No route forward without trying to wipe Iran off the face of the Earth which he hasn’t the firepower to do (at least not without deploying nukes) and no route back without losing face.

This is what happens when you put a man-child in the White House. MAGA have a lot to answer for.

A big part of the problem as has been said, is the system which got him there. In particular the complete capitulation of the GOP. I don’t think one can really criticise Trump for being on the make without recognising that basically the whole of the Republican Party is on the make and in it for themselves. Proably half the Democrats as well.

TBH America is deeply broken and has a long history of unpleasantness such as white supremacy and general hatred of non-whites including Native Americans (ironic for a nation built on immigration), or McCarthyism to name but two areas.

Though to be fair the whole white supremacy/bible bashing/toxic masculinity thing is pretty far reaching.

You can see the imprint of the last person he spoke to, which is why he changes his mind so often.

If this is true it’s appalling.

They’re daring Greenland to take mlitary action.

Greenland needs to physically block them and appeal officially to Nato to help ie send troops I think.

IMV vital to be done now and promptly to nip it in the bud otherwise tbe violations of sovereign territory by the US will escalate and expand. It’s not just Iceland we’d be defending here.

This will not stop and it will be a lot worse for us all if we don’t.

It’s Greenland Karen but I agree with you.

Sorry, crossed posts.

If NATO sits on its hands or prevaricates then the EU needs to have some guts and show its teeth.

I can’t see Denmark sitting on its hands.

Denmark is an EU member luckily

Having read the whole article now, I noticed this at the end.

‘The Greenland government’s statement said it “would not be proportionate” to demand the equipment be removed. An application for permission remained under processing, it added.’

Wusses. They need to be “on” this.

They need to refuse, and they need to enforce it.

This is the tip of the US spear.
