Trump has lowered the bar for what is acceptable behaviour from a politician so low I doubt that it will ever recover. Will we ever return to dignity in politics?

I think so. Populism blows up as fatuous promises believed by gullible people make things worse not better. But the cathartic process has to be gone through.
Which is why, I think, for the US at least, worse is yet to come. Things aren’t bad enough yet. Unfortunately the US is dragging the rest of the World though its mega-beschissenen Moment.
Having hit the buffers on the asshole side of the arc, the pendulum will swing back again to the middle, reasonable ground, until probably swinging too far in the other direction and Mitterrand’s ghost will appear.
And on it will go from one side to the other forever and ever and ever. until the cockroaches (incredibly resilient) inherit the Earth

Perhaps my glasses are a little rose-tinted but few politicians ever behaved like Trump, or spoke to people as he does.

No, he truly has lowered the bar and nailed it in place. Especially for US politics.
But, as I said, I’m not sure there was ever much honour or dignity in US politics in the first place.
The UK has been a little better, at least.

This is the first I’ve heard of Trump’s website for Brits and Europeans who have lost their freedom of speech. Imagine if someone set up the same for US citizens?
Is one allowed to say rude things about Trump on it?
I doubt it very much but it would be fun to try if the site ever works. We could be banned from a freedom of speech site.

Yes Carney is Canadian. I assume we are supposed to beliveve the author is Australian given that the title of the substack is " I F***ing Love Australia" but (s)he writes anonymously.
