Oh crikey Trump

Seconded…!

I don’t think this will come as a surprise.

‘US democracy is now back at the worst recorded level since 1965, when US civil rights laws first introduced de facto universal suffrage. All progress made since then has been erased, according to the report.’

That Trump is now only a hair’s breadth from being full on dictator should be obvious to anyone with a brain cell.

I’d like to say that it is sad to watch a once great democracy crumble in real time - though to be honest I’m not sure how great the USA ever was at democracy.

No it’s not :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Are you trying to put Jon Stewart out of work?

It’'s hard to express this but I think Trump may be approaching maximum amount of total negative impact by one man on the world’s population. Sure, there have been more brutal dictators like Hilter and Stalin but Trump’s actions are affecting, and will likely affect more people negatively than any other figure in history. He may not quite be approching those two characters, but it’s early yet. The world has never been more interconnected than it is now.

Am I right in thinking you’re American? If you are, it must be distressing to see this.

Or disconnected, there are enormous pressures coming Americas way from other parts of the world be it Canada or the EU and also the far east. The ripple factor could become a tsunami on the return

Correct. US/IT dual, but lived all my life in the US until I came here 3 years ago.

Before you know someone you have to walk a mile in their shoes. Think Trump mis-understood

Seems a reasonable summation of where we’ve got to

Trump says you can tell a lot about people from the shoes they wear - what that is I don’t know…

When Trump gifts out shoes several sizes too big for his team then he can tell who the sycophants are by who wears them

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/17/style/men-big-shoes-trump-administration.html

Rubio seems to be the ‘chief big-shoe sycophant’ so far…

Makes a change when the boots are too big for the wearer!

In the early hours this morning an LBC presenter discussed an idea emanating from Chatham House that if Trump were offered the help he wants in the Straits of Hormuz, he could in return support Ukraine to end the conflict – a deal, and Trump likes deals.

Apparently, the President of Finland, a Trump golfing buddy, thought that a very good idea, and worth considering.

I’m sure that is what I heard, but can’t find anything to corroborate it though.

The problem with cutting a deal with Trump is he never keeps his word, so even if he agrees you won’t really have a deal and he’s well known for not paying up!
If NATO does agree to help out, I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if he pulled US ships out, claiming they’ve done their bit. His war is, apparently not popular in the US and besides Cuba is a much easier and possibly more lucrative option.

He exceeded his power without going through Congress, using some emergency power (falsely) and Congress has just sat back and enjoyed another lunch. Complicit so none of them are any good, have there been protests in the streets?

Have the American public demanded action to rein in Trump?

I don’t know Corona, I doubt it, but even if they did protest he’d just say it was nasty foreigners causing trouble in the promised land.

The 'excursion is very popular with his base. 9 out of 10 morons approve, and that is all he cares about. The other 70% of the country and the rest of the world doesn’t exist to him.

Would it make the tiniest bit of difference if they had?
