Paracetamol

What on earth are they not understanding…?? I’ve found they will work very hard to understand my fractured French… made even worse through a mask.

I wanted an indigestion medication and they offered me an amazing range. No, I didn’t want this or that… I knew about Gaviscon and Rennies, but wanted neither… we discussed “to chew or not to chew”… and finally settled on something which will take care of my needs for the next 10 years or so (except that it expires at the end of 2023…)

and since the Election is now over, I probably won’t need anything at all…

Youngest daughter works in a pharmacie and she is instructed to ‘push’ certain products for which she gets a not inconsiderable bonus based on how much she shifts.

Sadly the same the world over these days and not just pharmacies. Statins is a prime example of a 1 trillion dolar business which is no better than a placebo.

** might be 1.1% better than a placebo
1% means not statistically important.

Worse than that Corona. They actually harm most people.

There are some who need them but very very few. So far as I am aware doctors received incentives to prescribe and - I believe - governments were subverted to get statins taken on and promoted.

@corona and @KarenLot

OH is prescribed statins… and I don’t believe our Doc prescribes stuff which is not actually needed.

I would hate for someone to stop taking prescribed medication, simply because of something they had read on a forum.
If anyone is worrying/wondering about taking their medication, they need to discuss with the Doctor and/or Specialist…
(this is my opinion, others are free to disagree… but I’m bowing out.)

Statins are over prescribed but your OH could be one of those who genuinely need them If you trust your doctor then don’t worry

Have you got the links (and I mean proper ones ) to that potentially dangerous statement? It seems to me you are vocal on a lot of medical stuff without backing it up, or having relevant experience

There is a lot of hyperbole on internet forums about all kinds of things. It’s very likely that your husband does benefit from statins (as do many others. I agree about it being a very bad idea to stop taking prescribed medicine without discussion with the prescribing doctor first.

Yes I shall post some later.

me too. Prescribed originally by my cardiologist IIRC and he reviews my medicaments every rdv without fail as do the other specialities. If any of my medications were inappropriate, they would take me off them - and indeed have over time.

Absolutely, it should be discussed however the doctors need to also listen to other doctors and cardiologists for explanations to the other side of the argument and not simply say “your cholesterol is above 5.75 you need statins” a simplistic view based on sadly BS. In the emergency rooms they must ise every trick they have to save lives but the ridiculous number of people taking them blindly on spec is just amazing. My brothers doctor told him he needed statins, his cardiologist wrote to his GP and said, I have been inside his arteries and there is nothing to worry about. (Brother had a pace maker fitted) he has the irregular heart beat issue.

I will post links from biomechanical engineers and cardiologists, would you view them?

frankly, no - sorry.

People fitting pacemakers don’t go inside arteries, an angiogram may have been performed but that’s different

Well said!

Without wishing to sound too harsh, if someone is going to do something like that because of conversation on a forum about Surviving France, then, well, perhaps their Darwin Award should be at the engraver having their name put on it already. While I don’t wish I harm to come to anyone, at least a modicum of common sense is required to survive, in France or anywhere :see_no_evil::laughing:

No apology needed its your body, your life. Why would anyone listen to a view from other doctors, professors?

Lets just accept that his cardiac surgeon has been inside his arteries. He had the examination via a camera up through the leg so must have been looking at something.

Thats a bit harsh, I am just the messenger, the real professionals will be giving their views, all I ask is watch, if you can take their arguments apart please do, this is a discussion. That said there is no point in having a mind if you dont ever change it.
