There was a time in the recent past where the CAA banned the use of progressifs/varifocals whilst flying.
Later advice was provided about the need to move your head as opposed to just your eyes when looking in a different direction (very necessary for pilots looking out of the cockpit) to overcome the nausea/disorientation phenomenon and I have to say, from airline pilots I know and my own experience, this later led to the ban being removed once the advice was widely promulgated.

I have never had a problem with varifocals, except once when they made them up wrongly.
