I have made wrong decisions, Barbara, and I would never call the result of any of my bad calls "accidental", anything I have done in error, was yes, a mistake on my part, error of judgement, but not an accident. I I have ever caused harm to an animal or person,or damaged anything, it is not accidental, but it is out of overlooking something, being reckless, not thinking. Getting into my mother's car at 15, and smashing it into a wall was not an accident, it was stupidity on my part. Point final.
Have Ryanair ever had a fatality? not yet, but neither have countless airlines before a disaster. Air France. Safe till the Crash. Helios, safe till the crash. Most "big" airlines still are "safe". They just don't have a string of people complaining about burst eardrums from pressure issues, bruised from plummeting in altitude, mid flight, lung irritation from smoke in the cabin, and endless hassle with customer relations.
Well, one thing is certain, we are all going to go sometime. Some people have a "bucket list" - a list of things you want to do/see before you die. So, thanks to Ryanair forging the way, there are now low-cost airlines to take us wherever we want to go in Europe. If Ryanair withdraw from the Languedoc, that will put a severe hole in my bucket. Who do you think would replace Ryanair? Flybe? Easyjet?
"It was never sure wether the drivers were killers or the poor pedestrians were careless."..
fair enough, but... someone, somewhere was not paying attention.I wouldn't go as far as to call the drivers "killers", but, generally, when something like that happens, either a driver is too fast,or driving without due care and caution, OR, a pedestrian is stepping onto the road without being completely aware of their surroundings.
Yes, Everyone has their time, and we all can come to our end in any way imaginable, but, it is for real reasons, not "just because that's how it was meant to be". In a plane crash, or road traffic collision, very often, it is young people with a lot to lose, not people having lived almost a century, dozing off to heaven.
Zoe I lived on Holland Road W.14 a very busy main road in London...Just close to my house 2 people were killed within the space of a year and a half and one was the best friend of my waitress and the other was an ex kitchen porter. It was never sure wether the drivers were killers or the poor pedestrians were careless. There is a time for everyone...someone or something makes a deision. Not sure if I believe in what believe in or what choice I would make if I had to follow a road. Another lable....religion.
Im not saying I blame the victim for being there, I'm just saying, yes, if the Arab way of thinking is to say "you were there, and so, it was partly your fault", it is screwed up.
Is it possible you understood I agreed with the idea?? Perhaps, because of my cynicism, you thought I believed what I wrote. i get that a lot. Better tone down the paralell drawing, and the sarcasm...
The very reason insurance companies, and investigations go on after crashes shows that there is big money in laying blame.
think we have a different definition of blame Zoe. I believe accidents happen, even with overbearing health and safety initiatives...the wind blows a tile off a roof and it kills someone 5 floors below...that to me is an accident, you dont seem to accept there are such things as accidents, most of the no win no pay legal companies see it the same way, we can only agree to disagree. I dont think I would 'blame' the victim of a crime for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, now that does seem screwed up thinking!
When i was racing bikes back in the 60/70/80s i joked i could recognize the hospital from the cracks in the ceiling as they wheeled me about on the trolly, flying much safer than bikes but nowhere near as much fun.
I think anyone having worked in a hospital, or as a paramedic will understand this.
When we say the word "accident", we are excusing reckless behaviour on someone's part.
As for the Arab idea on laying of blame, screwed up, it is. We are all "by accident", in whatever place, at whatever time, by that notion. Therefore, a gunshot victim is almost as much to blame, by being in the path of the bullet, as the shooter.
I worked in A and E for years.....I have seen plenty of accidents...but I understand what you are saying Zoe.... ..in Arabic countries...if you are involved in an accident you bear a brunt of the blame regardless of whether the other drive caused the accident...they believe if you hadnt been there...the accident wouldnt have occured...rather screwed way of thinking
Barbara, no, it's quite simple. my life is very simple.
I once witnessed a "freak accident" where a wheel came off a rolling vehicle, and killed a pedestrian.
the inquest, and following court cases provided us with the information that the wheel SHOULD have been secured with SIX nuts. There were only FIVE nuts holding it on, as the driver was sure that was enough.Accident, or negligence? Or was it just "his time"
Count the number of flights, and then go count the number of diverted landings, go arounds, smoke in cabin issues, birdstrikes, tailstrikes, lightning strikes, mayday callings, and so on and so on and so on. I don't generally read tabloids, nor do I watch television, so, if there is a witch hunt out for O Leary, I wouldn't know.
Don't forget Beziers, yes Ryanair again - that's doable for your clients too Sheila?
Whilst I've moaned about Ryanair in the past - they do provide cheap flights to the south of France and made it possible for me & ze other half to commute to Bristol for 4m...for £20 each way! Cheaper than a train into London from the suburbs...(except the carbon...yes I know!)
If you don't like the service - don't use them is what I say...anyway - do you remember the Ryanair video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPyl2tOaKxM we wouldn't have had that without Ryanair...now that still makes me crack up.
With kids I have now decided to give O Leary's buses a miss - too stressful but if I was flying solo or en couple again I would definitely grab those shiny plastic yellow and blue seats at bargain prices.
If they stopped serving local airports - I'd miss out on visits from friends and family for sure, they all love the week away for less than £100!
