Nothing happens, I think. Certainly not anything to do with dishpointer
Thatâs a bit crazy. If I do a Google search for dishpointer this is what I get âŚ
The first link returned is what you want. Do the same and click on that first link.
Yes, thatâs what I did and where I was led to, but all
it said below that was telecharger and ouvrir.
What you see is an advert. Donât touch it. Just fill in your GPS coordinates in the first box you see on the upper left as in my picture and select the satellite as in my picture and hit the Search button.
Sorry mate, but can you see a search button, pretty sure I canât?
If you mean the âcontinuerâ button further down that screen, well I pressed that too and got nowhere but adverts.
Got to go out now, somebody to meet, but Iâm pretty sure I was invited to scroll down to a menu before pressing anything. But thanks all the same @_Brian, Iâll check that out later.
It works, but I havenât the time to scoll down that almost unending list of satellites, so will try again later.
Update. Managed to get the dishpointer onto my map now so know almost exactly where the azimuth should be and pointed the dish there. Still no signal on the tv but I wasnât using the finder and only guessing at the elevation required of 37.3.
But out having a meal last evening with friends and sitting next to Eddie, I think I understand now why I got in such a pickle. I now know, since my finder wouldnât light up, that I had a duff antenna cable, but until last night I couldnât understand why Eddie didnât have the same problem with his finder. He had it connected to a battery pack so never picked up on the fact that the cable was duff, so that caused all the problems of shifting the dish here and there and even buying a new dish (the bracket was broken anyway) and new LNB, when all we probably had to do was replace the cable without touching anything else.
I might couple up my new finder again later, after walking with the dogs, and seeing if I can make head or tail with it with the info I now have.
When I was at school, in my geometry set I had a little plastic semi circular thing with all the angles marked on it. I wish I had it now and might see if I can buy one tomorrow, there is alot of school stuff, especially at this time of year, in Auchan so fingers crossed. Eddie is coming round again on Tuesday just in case I donât have it cracked by then.
That dishpointer site is fine, but why is it necessary to scroll through 150 satellites to find the one you want each time? Why not be able to simply type it into the box as you do with the location? Very frustrating.
One final thing. According to the Settings on the decoder the satellite I need is Eutelsat 5W A, which no longer exists and all I can search for is 5W B. I have read elsewhere that the change was made automatically, but has anyone had any thoughts on this? I have only one thing left to change, and that is the decoder, will that have to go too?
The 5A satellite is no longer operational and has been moved out of the way and replaced by 5B in the same place. Itâs just that the software hasnât been updated to reflect that. Just select 5A in the menu.
The box you have will work perfectly with the 5B satellite so there should be no reason to change it. In the other thread I think I mentioned that I had found people on forums online who stated they used the box you have with the 5B satellite.
Picked up a protractor in Auchan this morning in a pack with a set square and ruler.
Although I canât actually see the reference point for due south because of leaves in the way, I have a pretty good idea where it is.
So using the protractor and a level I set the verticle to as near 37.3 as I can.
Then, again with the protractor, I set the azimuth to 186.6.
The finder still shows a steady red (V) and still shows the 2 greens alternating and beeping on the RH one.
At the same time the number on the left of the finder screen has gone up to around 43 from the 10 I set it to according to the instructions. They said it should get to as close as possible to 50.
The moving bar across that screen is at around 75% of it.
At no time during all these adjustments has the âno or bad signalâ panel on the tv altered.
The full sun has come upon the dish now so I have abandonned any other fiddling for the day and it is now time to go for a swim.
Whether or not with 2 of us tomorrow, one to watch the screen (who knows, I might have passed through the spot without knowing?), we might be successfull, I donât know.
At last I have Fransat and all French channels back again. After failing yet again to find the only satellite recommended by the dishpointer site and another source of info that Eddie had, we finally tried finding the earlier satellite which was supposedly out of commision. Eutelsat 5WA.
The original loss was of course a bad connection between 2 cables, but that covered up the fact that we had been misled to the wrong satellite and so moved the dish away from the right one. Immediately done, we had two, full to the max, green bars on the screen and a perfect reception. Took the opportunity while we were at it to re-route the, longer, cable over the top of the veranda, well away from everything on the ground including the mower.
At last, it all works .
You are pointing at the new Eutelsat 5WB, as the old one is no longer there, itâs in what is called a graveyard orbit. You just werenât pointing at the correct part of the sky.
