Selling honey?

Honey sales…… I am an amateur beekeeper for the last 10 years. Normally I get enough honey for family and a few friends. Suddenly this year I have far too much. Is there a way that I can sell some legally without going down the full SIRET route? I do not anticipate that this will happen again.

It will be interesting to learn what the official line is on this…

but I am wondering if you can sell your honey at a local vide-grenier/market
We see all sorts of stuff for sale at these events and I believe doing this “just the once” is/can be acceptable. Let’s face it, for a vide grenier ordinary folk will just sell whatever they have and make themselves some money… not saying it shouldn’t be declared as a one-off for the Impots… someone will know the correct way of doing this, I’m sure.

you must be very lucky with your bees… and you might want to keep a good stock of your honey for next year… just in case.

Thank you I am hoping that I can do that. Possibly in conjunction with a friend who makes and sells organic cosmetics. But I would like to know exactly where I stand legally. Also if I could put up a sign and have an honesty box at my gate or just get any customers to ring a bell.

How lovely! Where are you? I’d buy some! Currently on a train to Germany then heading for the antipodes but I have daughters at home if you aren’t too far away.

I would too if you are near me, my regular beekeeper has not been able to supply since may and thinks it will be the end of this month before he has any.

However

please don’t mix the jars up.

Legally no, not without a Siret as a minimum and ideally a registration. You can never tell when a nosey neighbour will ask questions. However as with most French admin it sounds horrific, but isn’t really. Siret number is free and just a question of filling in a form online

Première ruche : législation et démarches.

Whatever you have in natural honey comb form, I will buy from you! Let me know, and I am on my way.,.

No advice on the legalities, but I’m glad to hear your bees are doing well.

A friend of mine here in Surrey keeps bees and he told me recently they have had a terrible year - the wet weather has meant he will get very little honey from his hives.

Oh dear, so far away… What a pity this appeared just now, @toryroo and I could have sent you payment and begged @AngelaR to bring a box down!

I’m about 10 mins south of Vire, and I’m coming down to the south of the Creuse ( near Felletin) mid September if its of any help @vero @toryroo

Now that is a kind idea, we can maybe organise something, there’s no immediate hurry :slightly_smiling_face: @anne_elvidge have you thought about prices and quantities available? I love honey and so do the daughters so am definitely in the market!

This also explains how to get a siret. It really is not a big deal. The only thing to watch out for is that once you have one you will receive a letter/email requesting you pay for a registration in a annuaire. This is NOT necessary!

I’m planning on revisiting your area in the autumn @vero and @toryroo so count me in as a honey delivery service if that works out

Is a Siret useful for anything else?

You can open an account at Metro with one. It’s not as good as Costco though sadly.
