Exactly, ease/convenience vs cost is always a trade-off, largely depends how often you need to shift money and how much you have to shift.

Saying “absence of fee” is a little misleading and I hate banks that do that as it is not transparent. But they always take their cut.

I didn’t say it was cheaper than other methods. I have made it clear that ease/convenience makes it a good deal as far as I am concerned.
In my opinion, based on my usage of the facility compared to other means of shifting money back to the UK, the frequency of my need to do so, and the amount I need to transfer it is a good deal.
There is no fee but the exchange rate is less favourable – for me that is a plus. Others may not find it so, but our circumstances and requirements are not identical.
What method of transferring money from France to the UK fits your circumstances?

We use a forex account, which we find very straightforward and transparent about costs and rates.

Good for you. We found that that using a forex “specialist” didn’t work for us due to the delays and extra costs.
But each to his own.
