Short exercise routines

Not in my book, fed up with foods being played with so keep it clean and simple that doesnt mean no flavour.

Yes. Intermittent fasting (max 48 or possibly absolute max 72hrs) seems to trick it and stop the body setting itself to using up less calories generally

Which might be good if someone is going through short periods when they really don’t feel like eating but is keeping going with enough fluids.

According to doctors in the know you body stores only 5 grams of sugar in tje muscles for use. The extra 25 grams from that glass of orange juice will be sorted out by the liver and stored as fat, in many cases around vital organs.

I have never heard of such a low number for the storage of glycogen in muscles. Who are the doctors that are saying only 5g can be stored for use?

@David_Spardo sending you positive vibes for a speedy recovery :hugs:

Sorry my bad, 5g in the blood stream. More in the muscles

Ahh ok. Thought there might have been a new study or something I missed. I did give up OJ and other juices when I started watching my carb intake. I miss them but having an orange once in awhile works

For vitamin C I often use a red pepper in a salad, higher level than an orange with only a little carbohydrate.

Thank you @Lily , very kind, I am feeling better bit by bit, just had a coughing fit this very moment (had to edit some wild typing twice) but the good news is it didn’t cause pain in the head or chest which was the worst of the last few days.

@David_Spardo - I hope your health continues to improve.

Returning to the thread title re. exercise, I suggest you ask your MT about their views on Tai Chi and/or Qi Gong. Many doctors recommended it - especially to we older types - as an excellent way to improve many aspects of our health.

Any relation to Qi-Gon Jinn?

It is Qui-Gon Jinn. But yes it is a play on him using the force(Qi)

What’s the bloke on the left doing? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It looks rather impressive, but perhaps OTOH possibly better not to ask…

I used to do a set of exercises based on Tai Chi. They certainly helped me loosen up, though the balance ones were a struggle.

Might try them again now I have a new exercise mat.

Very late now, bedtime, but I’ll look it up in the morning. my normal doc is on holiday. I might be interested, I did try yoga a while back but couldn’t stop rolling over backwards when crossed legged in the sitting position. :astonished: Something to do with my weight distribution I think.

I spend too much time sitting which can/does affect blood flow in the legs, which ain’t good for us oldies.

Just came across the ā€˜Senior Book’ on YouTube with some simple sitting & standing exercises, plus walking backwards as the most beneficial! The video uses words like shocking stunned miracle and dramatic or ā€˜we will reveal’ - but ignore them – it’s American speak. The exercises sound sensible & not too strenuous to me, but I’d leave a couple to the younger oldies.

References point to the University of Pennsylvania, CDC (Centres of Disease Control), European Journal of Applied Physiology, Cleveland Clinic, The National Institute on Aging and the Mayo Clinic, all of which exist.

ā€œThis video breaks down five surgeon-approved exercises that were tested in research labs and proven to boost blood flow in seniors over 60. And make sure to watch until the last exercise, walking backwards, because researchers found it stimulates circulation more effectively than some medical treatmentsā€.

Luckily, I have strong legs, but stability isn’t as good as I’d like, which will probably affect most of us in time.

Snap, but I’ve only had 3 falls in 4 months, getting better. :joy:
Still need a bit of work on the banging into things though, one of these days I won’t see any bruises on my arms, only trouble is the surprise will probably fell me.

I’ve learned a new acronym today – FOOSH. Falling-Onto-an-Out-Stretched-Hand.

Cat was sick. Spread my legs apart and bent down to wipe up. One foot slipped sideways, stretching legs further apart, lost balance and FOOSH!

Dear oh dear! Wrist is OK, just a bit painful at the moment which didn’t prevent me from typing this out, or driving or shopping.

First time I’ve had a sprained wrist. Will be extra careful the next time the cat decides to be sick!
