Ow, get it x-rayed all the same to check that it isn’t actually a so-called ‘butterpat’ fracture* of the end of the radius and not a sprain.

*Fracture en motte de beurre

If it is one of these your wrist will be as you describe it but will heal a lot better immobilised.

I Think any fracture would show up by the swelling and pain in the affected area. A sprain is tender but doesn’t swell so much from my first aider days.

Thanks, but it wasn’t so much Ow, more like OUTCH! I’ve broken my wrist before when it swelled up like a balloon, rapidly, and was agonising. There’s a bit of swelling and when I gave the whole of my wrist a good poking around there are no places that are particularly painful.

The fall was from a semi crouched position close to the floor, carpet on timber, and the distance of travel was about half a metre. An awkward fall onto the flat of the hand.

I’ll rest it tomorrow + paracetamol, and see how it is on Monday.

I like Aldi’s own demi-sel, it’s the closest I have found to Lurpak in taste and colour. Yes I know this is an old feed but it was top of “have you seen” .. lol

Good - I mentioned only because my children managed to rack up an impressive quantity of these fractures (riding, cycling, roller skating etc) and they looked like nothing much, little swelling a bit of tenderness but broken en motte de beurre nonetheless. The first to get one found her piano lesson very painful so we went for an x-ray to rule a fracture out - but oh no. The other times I was better informed and went straight to A&E, and each time it was a break.

FOOSH is exactly what I did, but in the forest, and it was a trip. I was alright till my hand hit wet leaves on the ground and skidded forward so that my full weight concentrated on the armpit. Dislocated shoulder. How is your shoulder, can you lift your arm as if to salute dear old Adolph? If you can drive ok a wise move would be to somewhere, as @vero says, for an X-ray. Best of luck.

Time to buy one of these as a safety suit?

It’s very common among runners and cyclists ,who invariably end up with a broken collar bone. Which , like ribs, you can’t do much about. I’ve seen cyclists in the Tour de France get back on their bikes after such an injury, but they are in a lot of pain.

Yes - the fact it has earned the acronym FOOSH means it is a very common occurrence.

Yesterday my wrist was swollen and very painful – couldn’t pick up a kettle of water – but woke up to a less painful and more mobilised wrist today. Still painful and swollen but can pick up that kettle and I can form a fist more firmly than yesterday.

My cat comes first with vet appointment tomorrow. Then will pop into the pharmacy for advice and hopefully a wrist support/protector.

Bending down to clean up cat sick, then slip and fall sideways, awkwardly and slightly backwards, was so easy. Too easy. Must be getting old!
