Is it me?
Why should the BBC feel that they should dominate their airwaves with such rubbish?
I’m off to another room to watch something on Netflix.
I was so intrigued, I’ve taken a look on youtube… it looks quite fun… although I don’t think muchof some of the costumes
I could say the same about interminable hours of cricket, football, and rugby
But public broadcasting caters for a wide range of interests, including the 10 million plus who watch and enjoy strictly. Don’t be so intolerant of other people’s tastes.
Hey calm down - perfectly happy to watch 5 solid days of cricket for the game to be deemed a draw!
Football I agree with, it seems that like Strictly it is a national sport that the BBC, and ITV with football, seem to think it takes precedence over everything however cricket and rugby are shown on lesser chanels perhaps with the exception of 6 nations rugby which takes place over 5 weekends in February/March.
I find the air time given to Strictly between now and Christmas is overkill.
In polite company soccer and rugby shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence.
I agree.
At several points over this past summer the non-commercial BBC had 3 out of their 4 main channels showing sport of some sort for most of the afternoon & evening
Roll on the world cup then badger!
Because of the excessive heat this summer … I admit we’ve been watching dvd’s/youtube (no tv connection)
Normally, there’s far too much to do and enjoy, outdoors
I don’t watch strictly come dancing because it doesn’t interest me. There are many who are interested, so good luck to them. Happy viewing.
I quite enjoy sport on TV but just hate the chat . I hate the chat! It’s the action I want to see. Women’s football and not so much men’s’ football now for me these days. And women’s cricket!
And golf for the meditative relaxation I experience from it, and in the past, for the unbeatable amusing commentary of the sadly departed Peter Alliss.
For the first time yesterday, I watched a mixed doubles in snooker! First time ever on TV, I think.
And films – I love the escapism in films. Or documentaries for the insight.
Or, if nothing entertaining is on, I switch over to the news channels of which there are plenty. I’m not particularly aware that the BBC is dominating the airwaves with ‘such rubbish’ as quoted.
Edit - forgot tennis - who doesn’t watch Wimbledon!
I suppose cricket does have a function as it trains up people like Mark Ramprakash and Darren Gough to dance well enough to win Strictly.
Yes I really enjoy Strictly for lots of reasons.
For me there is nothing better than watching really good dancing and to discover the winner and see how much pleasure the contestants experience.
Sometimes the winners are suprising …Bill Bailey an unlikely dancer.
Well, if those who do not enjoy this entertainment there is always the washing up to take care of,
Well said Barbara. When Channel 4 asked if I would be willing to pay for All4 without ads my answer was I don’t watch much TV I’d rather wash up.
In a different life… I used to enjoy Come Dancing…
and when colour tv came out… the change was magical
…and motor racing…and the worst…interminable hours of darts
I watched it last night (havent since i luved in Oz) and had over 2 hours of smiling and laughing. I’ll be watching this year!
I’m happy, while the other half watches it I can go in the backroom and watch films on Netflix. No way could I spend 2 hours watching that with interminable howling and screaming every time a dancer even twitches.
Lots of howling a screaming at football and rugby matches.
There is so much skill and talent in professional dancing.
Watch the show Moray and co and note that there is so much elegance portrayed.
It’s only week one, so elegance is yet to develop completely. But the large man dressed in pink suit I thought was already elegant.
