Madame now has a Bouyges eSIM on her iPhone, as well as her (GiffGaff) SIM. It was set up by the gadgie in the shop and worked for a bit. It got locked, but I managed to unlock it. It’s still unlocked.
However … it’s no longer accepting calls on the Bouyges number - goes straight to answerphone - or text messages.
We’re in the UK at the moment.
At some point, she’s going to screw up her courage and ring Bouyges, but in the meantime, it’s not impossible that I’ve missed something (I tried all the solutions I could find), and SF is the home of the finest minds on the internet anyway.
Have you put it in do not disturb mode? It’s somewhere in settings usually.
Does the phone show “reception”? You can try setting the SIM to manual network selection - select the same carrier it’s trying and to use now - and see what happens. There’s some settings - APN - manual network selection “forces” them to correct. My UK SIM gets confused every time I"m in the UK
I recently ported my number from Sosh/Orange to Bouyges, using eSIMs.
There was a it of a hiatus on the changeover day but it all worked out by simply waiting.
Is Madame Porridge porting her number to Bouyges or is it just a new thing? If porting the new eSIM is assigned a temporary number which, due to some network magic, gets replaced with your old once the planned transfer happens.
I need a French tel number, useful when staying there in particular when needing electrician, plumber etc… I have a Giffgaff sim and want to get Bouygues Esim. Hopefully I will manage to set it up in the UK. Is Madame happy with it?
Bouygues requires a french tel number on the application. I see from various posts that members have used fake French tel numbers when ordering goods for delivery. I have a defunct SFR (La poste) tel number which I might try on the off chance it works.
Any tips anyone?
Unfortunately you will probably find that an activation code for the eSIM is sent to the tel No that you provide so it needs to be a working French mobile No.
Never knew I was so popular - it’s not that I know no one in France, just that I’d think it a bit of a presumption to ask. For one thing the activation codes time out relatively quickly (15 minutes I think) so a certain amount of co-ordination is needed.
However, offers of assistance are warmly received - might take someone up on the kind offer but, just for a minute, have other things on the hob so to speak (usually work).
It looks as though a link for the activation code is also sent via email and it is then possible to access it via QR code or in 'espace client’.
As it costs 2€ I will give it a try and see what happens. I will try from the UK first as I don’t go to France until mid march. I will let you know if it works.
Bouygues Esim- forfait B & you 1 Go - 1.99€ / month. No contract so you can stop it when you want. I put on the online form my old, inactive tel number. I was sent Esim new number and activation codes by email. It is also sent by text so I was concerned that might create a problem as the number I gave is not working but all is ok.
You can pay monthly by direct debit or do it by card payment.
EYou only get 2hrs of free calls but that doesn’t bother me as I can use my giffgaff phone to calls UK and all French numbers (fixed & mob) free. I needed a reliable French number and this will do the trick.
I am going to France tomorrow so I will report if there are any problems.
Thanks to everyone who gave their advice and their own experiences. It definitely helped me to check various things before going ahead.
