Yes that's it Doreen Kia-ora - well remembered.
Them sweet ciggies were a good one, Karen :)
And those "99ers" that suddenly slipped off the stick before you'd finished *wail*
Bottles of Tizer and Sarsaparilla ! Bring 'em on !
Thanks Doreen, still can't recall it. Don't think it made it to to the east coast !
What was the name of the orange drink they served at the ABC Minors ? You pushed the straw through the plastic lid. That was nice.
Always fascinated by Amy Turtle, could never figure out a word she said !
Jill Richardson tho' ...phew, wot a scorcher !
My fave sweets were chewing nuts & sherbert lemons bought by the weight. Another messy moment was when the sherbert lemons escaped the paper bag and mingled with the fluff on the inside of the school blazer pocket. I did get used to the blue furry sweets tho' the sticky fingers were a nuisance especially when picking nose etc etc
Boys will be boys !
Never heard of Jubilees or Jublees ?
Spam fritters were very good Barbara.
spelling....not my thing.
Hate being judged by my spelling...
I will never change now.
Yes do bring back those days...but how?
The days of innocence and when we were all
really contented for small thinks.
Like looking forward to watching crossroad on tv
and eating a wagon wheel or
watching dad roast chestnuts on a shovel/shovle
on the fire.
That is why we are here.
That's how you spell it!
Oh yes!! On a hot summer day with stuff oozing out of the badly torn corner of the 'pyramid'. We didn't have a fridge, so that was a buy and battle to finish before a clip round the ear for making more washing because it had run down all of our clothes. Oh yes, yes, yes. Bring back those days.
God, I hated Camp Coffee. One of my nans always had it.
Loved Black Jacks - Fruit salads next.
Yep. Sherbert all over the place. Get a bit of spit in the liquorice and you were stuffed.
Jubliees! I couldn't remember the name of them last night. A really stupid shape. Good to start with and then the more you ate the wider it got and you ended up with a red/orange lower face. They were so popular with the kids where I lived.
Typing mistake boys....
dodgers...
but lets not let a spelling mistake get in the way of fond memories
of this biscuit.
Longue du chat.
They were sold at my junior school perfect with the horrid
warm milk.
Ahh Bisto ! I love Camp Coffee...the only coffee I can drink
Sherbert Dips were annoying cos' I could never manage to suck the sherbert through the liquorice straw so I always ended up 'swigging' the sherbert from the holder. You can imagine the school blazer with the sherbert remains mixed with the ink stains from the leaky fountain pen !
Black Jacks were officially disgusting ! Sweet ciggies were ok tho'.
Have to agree, Salad Cream on bread was deeelish ...
No idea about Cremola but Ambrosia Rice Pudding is still around if that's the same thing Clare ?
They sell it in our local brit epicerie.
Does anybody remember Rice Cremola? And is it possible to still buy it in the UK?
I don't remember Pop Tarts in the 60's. I remember them, I bought them once, burned my mouth and that was it. But it wasn't in the 60s....or maybe it was. Maybe my nan bought them.
Salad cream (Heinz) on bread - a crust may take preference depending on how peckish I was feeling.
Treacle toffee made with Golden Syrup (don't forget to put a drop of vinegar in)
Black Jacks.
Chocolate Angel Delight.
Poisonous Camp coffee.
Oxtail soup.
- I can't believe how long Oxo have run with the same packaging. I know it works - but I bet there have been quite a few 'innovative' ideas that have been fought off along the way.
Horlicks. (Horlicks tablets from the chemist when feeling rich)
Sherbert dip.
Sweet cigarettes (Okay, you can stop making that sucking noise now!)
Vesta Paella. Loved it!
They still have, I am told by my bro-in-law's Argentinian partner, the famous Fray Bentos Corned Beef in Argentina. His mother, born in Cork, and father, born in Marseilles, prefer it prepared different ways to each other but have it in the house as a constant. Yeuuuchhh! We had it on rations when I was little and my mother got it in bulk from the NAAFI because she was the boss there :-(
Righto, Uruguay it is. So if we had objections to it being transported around the world, we could go to Uruguay and get the munchies with what is now available there, then skoff steak and kidney pies :)
My wifes family is/was from Aberdeen & Fraserburgh et environs and her and her mother's treat was to spent an afternoon in the restaurant/tea-room where they devoured platefuls of home made yummies plus a gallon of tea.
