Avocado, pickled turnip, little marinated fish, seaweed, shiso and sesame seeds on rice. I love avocados.
Lots of food miles there Vero.
If you just read the newspapers absolutely. It is certainly something to consider. Marketing dept next superfood is seldom local! It has to be better if it comes from somewhere else but local. Now looking at locally grown to see if there are alternatives, remember the gogi berry fad, could be replaced by any number of other products found locally. Be nice to list what exotica is grown in france?
Or Spain, https://www.ocado.com/products/natoora-spanish-tree-ripened-avocado-309677011
Now I know you will all hoot with laughter at what I’m going to say…
but I admit that when I first bought an Avocado, I thought it was some exotic fruit… which we could eat for dessert.
To OH’s relief, my culinary knowledge/skills have improved since then.
Now you tell me… !!!
I was astounded to find it really wasn’t some sort of pear…
but we are talking of a lifetime ago, when such stuff was very, very new in the UK (or at least in my part of UK in those days)…
Made some icecream using avocado.
Avocado from Spain, a colleague of mine has a deal with a co-op, seaweed from Brittany, shiso and sesame grown in the EU I think in Italy. But yes the fish is Chinese and the rice is Cambodian. But I buy it in 25kg sacks so maybe I save on packaging.
Out of interest how is the rice different Vero.
It is just bog-standard ‘jasmine’ rice, I get Thai/Viet/Cambodian whatever is the best deal I wash it and bung it in the rice-cooker and voila. It is great for rice balls and sushi etc as well. I also have glutinous rice which I love.
Good to see her up and about… business as usual…
