Undoubtedly true which I am sure attracts some refugees.

However it is definitely the case that asylum seekers can find France difficult.

There is certainly an element of the pot calling the kettle black in Patel’s comments; you could hardly say that the UK has a benign approach to immigrants (even those that we ourselves encouraged to these shores) but France is not nirvana.

Perhaps, given that this is true the interesting question is why 3x more asylum claims are made in France than in the UK (I suspect that this is a lot to do with the fact that it is pretty hard to make the channel crossing).

I’m not wanting to get swamped in this… but why did the chap who applied in Denmark then leave Denmark and come to France and apply in France ???

there seems little or no info just the mention…

No idea.

You have a ‘presence’ on the net Stella, your DOB for example is there for everyone to see. I have to ask, is it an old photo you’re using as you don’t look 80? :grinning:

France’s treatment of refugees is nothing to be proud of, but nor is it very different from the UK’s.
I’ve read some research and first-hand accounts of why some refugees try to get to the UK rather than settling in other countries, and the main reasons seem to be:

  1. They already have friends or family in the UK
  2. They already speak English or have some other cultural connection
  3. They’ve heard it’s easier go ‘under the radar’ - no identity card needed to get a job, etc.
  4. They have all sorts of illusions based on old British history books!

streets paved with gold…

I think you must have missed my post when I referred to smugglers purporting that UK streets were paved with gold.

Back home in my country it’s came to it was not the smugglers saying this it was the un and outer charities painting the picture of that every ting is made of gold

She is grandstanding. Claiming that the refugees fear torture if they remain in France. The UK always had the power to control its own borders, but seems unable to do so. The UK takes many fewer real refugees than France or Germany. Very few actually arrive on these small boast. many more Brits leave the UK to go and live in more civilised countries. The Uk is sinking to ever lower levels.

who has just been appointed as (interim) head of the replacement for Public Health England - National Institute for Health Protection (NIHP) following her abject failure on Track and Trace… seems like your best chance of landing any kind of job in Doris’ Dopey Dumbskills of No Particular Talents Government is that you have displayed incompetence above and beyond that of the esteemed leader
