The Ukraine situation, where will it end?

Don’t worry too much! Just take care of the little you can and let Fate take care of the big picture.

There has been a fair amount of anti-US and ant-EU clamour regarding how the Russian invasion of Ukraine is handled. Say what you like about ‘leaders of the free world’, I am sure as we speak they are frantically doing many strategic things behind and beneath the scene to ensure we remain the free world.

Poor Ukraine may well end up in a unenviable position, as has Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria but the western world will survive intact. That may not be fair or even right but it will not be ours to decide.

The crucial thing now is that Putin, and other megalomaniacs do not achieve brinkmanship success in a quest to dominate western powers. The success of one, currently Russia, will only encourage the others.

The dilemma for western powers now lies in finding a way to bring about an end to the destruction of Ukraine without further escalating hostilities into Europe while not capitulating enough to be seen as weak, opening the door to future megalomaniacs.

Yes, perhaps he is thinking rude thoughts about his gentleman’s sausage looking at that monster. I just wish the meglomaniac in Moscow would disappear along with his ilk and things cool down again and thinking about it, I feel his minions have to keep sounding off anti-everyone just to stop themselves being done away with one dark night down an alley somewhere.

It’s not dark alleys they have to worry about, it mostly stairs and open windows :roll_eyes:

Poisoned umbrellas and arsenic in the vodka too!

Probably publicly shamed too.

Seems that Russia is preparing its citizens to expect a nuclear war, though of course not suggesting to them that they could be swept away by it in the way they suggest Britain might be.

Regarding the incomprehensible and indefensible commencement of Russia, a country who invaded a peaceful neighbouring independent country, leading the UN, a council created in 1945 with the goal of actively maintaining peace within the international community.

The leader of this 2022 article in Le Monde says it all

I think it’s always been pretty impotent. It’s an improvement on the League of Nations (or notions :face_with_hand_over_mouth:) but not much.

One original member should not be able to veto any motion totally, it just neuters the whole organisation, makes it pointless and a laughing stock, tub thumping at it’s best.

I agree no one nation should be able to hold the UN to ransom, I think NATO should also look into this total voting, as seen by Turkey barring Sweden and made it hard for Finland to join them. I would like to see a unanimous vote acceptance set by a high bar of say 85% pass any resolutions.

Interesting

Likely Putin will have Ukraine blamed for this but looks more as though there is growing anti-war action within Russia itself.

The beginning of an asymmetric phase to the war? Not a bad strategy.

Should Putin be arrested if he travels to Africa?

As the article writer puts

many judicial systems in Africa are either politically compromised or constantly undermined by despotic leaders

Can’t really see it happening :dollar: :dollar: :dollar:

Me neither for exactly the reason you suggest, though I’m sure it will be dressed in robes of righteous outrage against the colonial oppressor.

Quite.

From another standpoint, here is a moving view

Are they so stupid and short sighted to see who is the colonial oppressor in Ukraine?
Sadly, yes.

It’s plainly the western nations.
