The weather!

No I haven’t but it’s becoming more common for motorcyclists who ride in the winter to use heated jackets or liners, or gloves.

I imagine this is similar technology, running off a lithium battery.

ETA I’m not sure I would want to walk around labelled as “Bert’s Chat”. But I assume other brands are available.

A colleague of mine comes to work on a bike and feels the cold, he’s very happy with his. It’s a sleeveless down one he wears under a windcheater.

Just be aware that someone was injured (or worse?) due to a malfunction of some sort recently. I’ll try to find the press article :crossed_fingers:

A good brand should be perfectly safe :+1:

I like my Chinese lithium batteries encased in a water resistant protective shell that I can yeet a safe distance away from me if they start fizzing or trying to weld me to something.

Like an iPhone.

I’ve been on fire, in a fire and electrocuted. I didn’t enjoy them as separate events, so I’m pretty sure I don’t want them as a Combo Meal.

I know language changes but I’ll never accept that anyone could write this themselves if they truly had been.

Pedantic, I know, but I’ll die on this rock :joy:

My pedantic hates are those along the lines of “I’m dying for a fag” or the many variants. No, you’re not dying :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:, although having that fag may hasten the day.

-6C here in the Correze this morning. Yesterday it reached the heady heights of 3C under beautiful blue skies and a sun trying unsuccessfully to warm things up.

Seeing the flooding comments I’m happy that we are 500m above sea level.

I don’t hear or read the name as Bert’s Chat. It has a German/Swiss rural & alpine origin/derivation so I hear the name spoken with a Germanic/Swiss tone. Hope it’s as warm as I shall want it to be. Spending time sorting/tidying a stone cold rickerty old workshop, as well as much needed garden work in icy temperatures sounds daunting. Hope the heated jacket will prove its worth.

If my outside thermometer is to be believed it is around minus 10C. Our attached garage is cold enough to be a fridge 5.3C. We went for a short walk yesterday and by the end a cup of hot coffee was very welcome.

Put an extra blanket on the bed last night and woke up this morning warm and cosy but bedroom temperature was 11°C. Outside the window I could see frost high up in my cherry tree, higher than roof ridge level. Never seen it that high before.

Doesn’t seem to deter the blue tits and great tits from pecking away at sunflower seeds on frost encrusted twigs.

Is it mad that I’m looking forward to the rain just so it warms up?

-9.8 @ 9am here today outside Grand-brassac (24):ice:

Feeling very sprightly today. It was -5°C this morning and I felt invigorated by it.

Local SuperU out of bird seed so went into town to get a couple of large sacks of sunflower seeds, but there and back was a very different drive from normal. Have never seen so many trees, right up to the highest of tree tops, covered with sparkling white frost, in the sunshine. Frost on wire fencing, frost on telephone cables. Frost on grass, lines of grape vines, everywhere. A magical journey. The car-cam video doesn’t do it proper justice.

There were moments when I wondered where I was, dementia-like, but it was just a very different looking landscape, even in town.

-8C for myself last night. Put the kitchen tap on and to begin with nothing was coming out! I will be leaving the boiler on, and the tap lightly dripping this evening, as I believe it will be the same again tonight.

Driving the car into town and back yesterday was magical, fairyland, with frost everywhere doing no real harm, but I woke up this morning to snow.

The photo of my front gate says it all. 30cms of snow everywhere!

The last time I had snow it was much the same as today but it must have been 20 to 30 years ago. I forget how long ago.

Shall have to do an inventory to see how much food is in the kitchen for me and the cats. Happily, I hope, I can rely on SuperU’s delivery service if necessary. Not sure that I will want to drive in this weather.

A bit further inland here, I wonder if that will be our fate tomorrow. Never lasts long though, after lunch, back to normal. :joy:

Gently snowing in Angleterre Sud this morning.

Just frost in Surrey but I think you are a bit further north?

I drove back from Bodmin yesterday morning after visiting She Whose Views Must Be Taken Into Consideration and it was very icy and slippery on Bodmin Moor. Once I got on to the A30 it was OK though.

I think some more snow is due for northern France and southern England on Thurs/Fri, depending on which way a weather front goes.

ETA: 11am Jan 6th update - a mild sprinkling of snow has just arrived …

Yes, by a small margin.

I’m shutting off water supplies to outbuilding in case something pops when it all thaws later in the week.
