I’ve just got the red alert on my phone. Currently waiting at St Lo for doctors appointment at 4 so should be home by 6 when the alert starts ![]()
Stay safe!
Madame went home early from the charity’s office in Truro so is now thankfully out of harm’s way before the back end of Goretti arrives…
I was surprised when you said that because it wasn’t on our forecast but we had 17° today as well.
Just received our warning, came from neighbouring préfecture, (Orne) we are in north Mayenne stay safe every one
Heavy sleet here in Oxfordshire. Perfect timing, we had our next year’s firewood delivered this morning after a week of cold dry weather, though at least we have a tarpaulin over it.
It’s windy enough here in 17…!
Hope those of you further north are coping ok and staying safe.
Well it has kept me awake since 0130 in Calvados. Not looking forward to seeing the greenhouse in daylight!
Just seen there has been a gust of 213kph in Barfleur.
My sister will be glad Friday is her day off from work at Long Crendon then.
If you can see…seems we have lost electricity.
It’s just wet and a bit blustery here in Oxfordshire - hope you’re all safe and warm.
I’ve just seen ours, or what is left of it here in 14500
, & the rain continues to lash down….
The nurse who takes my weekly blood sample (by torchlight as no electricity) just told me the same. Seriously windy!
The rain has stopped here near Falaise. Electricity still on, greenhouse amazingly intact, we were very lucky with the wind direction. One of the almost empty water butts fell over and a big heather plant slid down the bank and ended up on the gravel. Sounds terrible in the Manche, on land and sea.
I’ll be getting the drone out shortly to check the roof ![]()
Hope everyone (and their properties) are OK…
Nothing much to speak of here in Surrey (just a strong breeze, no snow), but my partner Di was in the Cornish red warning wind zone (she lives in a house perched on a hillside on the edge of Bodmin Moor).
Fortunately she is fine and (so far) no damage apart from a bit of displaced astroturf on her deck, and a couple of hours without electricity last night.
Her house faces west though so I think the wind went past her property rather than directly at it.
So I am relieved about that.
We have a tree down over the electricity line further down the road.
I was going to ask if she is ok, glad to hear she is.
Thank you so much Debby! Yes, it was frustrating for me being 220 miles away but we stayed in constant contact via text and she came through absolutely fine.
Storm Goretti has plunged us into a kafkaesque situation.
A tree fell across the road and brought down the cable supplying electricity to the house as well as the roadside cable. We are at the end of the line so according to enedis’s map of problems there is none at our address. However it is impossible to tell them that they are wrong and there is a cable lying on the ground. All the automated services aren’t set up for this and cut off when we can’t complete their “diagnostics”.
There seems no way to speak to a human bean. I have resorted to Facebook messenger but hold out little hope.
I am just hoping it doesn’t get too cold and freeze pipes as guess all I can do now is wait until Monday and phone the Commune’s service technique who surely must have an emergency contact for Endenis.
