Really interesting read James. Thanks. Of course it’s sterotyping but does give interesting overview. Gotta laugh at British wish to go in without planning and hope to muddle through, could that explain the present mess??? On the french side my husband has always maintained the french are very individual but I couldn’t see it myself especially when he produced strikes as a proof of individualism!!!

Be prepared to smile nod and agree when someone explains the superiority of french culture language education etc etc. You’re not here to bang your national drum

A top-tip is, surely, to start learning the language ! Marvellous if one can start before coming to France… that gives something to build on… but, if not… get down to proper lessons asap…one way or another. On-line, face to face… total immersion … whatever fits in with you … but DO IT :sunglasses:

On the advice of our French teacher have today bought a french puzzles book. Trying to translate the clues and then find the french answer is very challenging but will improve my vocabulary.

Another good idea… join French Clubs and Associations… where you will need to use whatever French language skills you have. It’s amazing what info/vocab etc sticks in the brain when it involves something you enjoy.

Too many join English-speaking Clubs and Assns… instead of the French ones… bigga mistaka to maka… IMO. :zipper_mouth_face:

It’s McDo not MacDo - just one of my ‘ticks’ (it’s a ‘Scottish’ thing!) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(wait for it…someone will be along soon saying ‘well I’m Scottish and it’s never bothered me!!’ lol)

:thinking::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: shows how much I do NOT know about that eating establishment…:rofl:

McDo does have its place if used sparingly.
In the uk i love the milkshakes and the chicken mayo sandwich. But this is probably 3 times a year when stuck on the road.
My grandson is sometimes taken on a Friday after school and in one breath orders
Chicken nuggets,a fries,a ketchup,a ice cream and a fruit shoot please.
Its convenience food but I’d eat it ahead of gésiers or tête de veau anyday.

There is a McDo next to to my gym - makes you laugh eh!!?? However I only pop in for their delicious coffee from their McCafé rage. Just had one

Get all your bills set up monthly to avoid a miserable Christmas :moneybag::moneybag::moneybag:

I understant what you mean… but the McDo/MacDo bit was in answer to anyone who might not be pleased to wait… for service… for the food to be cooked… whatever. In France, ideally, Dining should be leisurely… if that doesn’t suit, folk can go elsewhere…:hugs:
