Does anyone know how reliable the running trains are during the train strikes? I’m flying out of CDG on Thursday morning so to make sure I’m there in time, I booked a train (InOui) to Paris for Wednesday pm and a hotel near the airport. When the strike was announced I booked another train (Ouigo) in the hope that at least one of them would run. I also booked a Flixbus as a backup.
I’ve had confirmation that the Ouigo train has been cancelled but it seems that the original InOui train is running although it seems that this is the only scheduled train to be running that afternoon. My problem is that the bus (the last of 3 services to Paris that day) leaves several hours before the train, so do I take the bus to be safe, or should I risk waiting for the train ! Is the train guaranteed to run?
Be ‘safe’, avoid the stress, take the bus and then relax at the hotel.
The bus will run. The train normally runs…but it will packed and there’ll be a lot more people than tickets…
If there’s no connection they usually work fine - connections on strike days leave you miles from anywhere useful
The reason I hesitate is that the train takes 1hr 40mins whereas the bus takes 5hrs 40mins. I wonder what time I can be sure that the train is definitely running? I guess only once I know it’s left its original departure station
In theory you should be able to check whether that train is running the evening before. I give no guarantees tho’!
Look on the SNCF temps reél sites.
I’ve actually just had an email from SNCF that the InOui TGV is going to be running as planned so I’m going to stick with that . Thanks all for your input.
Always worth a check.

Yikes, I’m catching the TGV to Paris and then the Eurostar to London next weekend… They’d better not be on strike!
I once did this journey when a strike was on, but only the local trains were affected. Arriving at GdN one time another strike was in place, but only for local transport! Taxis were doing a roaring trade,80 euros to get to Montparnasse!
I hope all goes smoothly for you
Soon flying to UK, first time in 8 years. So stressful if ATC will call a strike or how much time to allow for the journey on M25-M11 to get back to Stanstead.
Yet again, a revived thread of two years ago. What is the point and/or the fashion of doing this - especially this one that is two years out of date.
If you want to say something, then start a new thread. It is simpler than trawling through the archives.
Thing is, a thread on French rail strikes is evergreen.
Then let’s have a sticky that we can append the relevent dates.
Not difficult if one uses the search function. I think it is gracious of people to use existing threads and not be forever starting new ones on the same topic. In fact it’s a relevant revival of this topic as there are strikes pending. We have friends arriving in Bordeaux from Paris tomorrow and going back Saturday - we are hoping all will be well. It looks like most of the strikes are in May and I’ve read it tends to be local trains rather than the TGV - fingers crossed.
Huh? I replied to a post made 3 hours beforehand.
Title of the thread seem apt to the post, why start another with the same title?
I very recently rekindled a thread on French politics (I picked the best old one I could find) as in the past there were people asking why so much stuff on British & American politics & very little on French politics, no one questioned why rekindle an old thread but ‘le contenu’ was all in French.
Maybe I am too far in the fast lane. Opening a thread to read about someone catching a plane and booking a seat on a Flix two years ago is simply a waste of time.
Now, if the title of the thread was ‘Train strikes’ and the content was simply ‘train drivers call for a strike on May 5’, I would find very informative and helpful.
But surely all you are seeing is the latest message? I have no idea how this thread started. I’ve just read Lily’s useful link to the “greve” site (posted 6 hours ago) and discovered train drivers are on stike over the coming weeks.
No. Unless one has already read the thread, the first post opens.
Anyway, let’s move on.
Be worried if you plan to travel on Rail Sud 5 -11 May.
Love the GIF @Gareth
I’m going to Paris from Carcassonne on the 6th of May, returning on the 13th. Looks like I’ll just miss it and be in Paris when all the strikes are on
