Trump Trumps Trump

It was expected that the impeachments would fail but I wouldn’t be confident about escaping justice in the courts if I were the accused.

Whac-A-Trump! He just comes up out of another hole…

Top Trump adviser now says Trump is “definitely running” for president in 2024.

If any election was stolen it was the one where the competent applicant (regardless of what you thought about the morals of her and Bill) mysteriously lost.

Having been in the White House before Hilary at least know where the bodies were buried and where the knives were. The theories about secret mayhem-causing tactics by Russia may seem farfetched but beginning to wonder now

Is it that the Republican Senators and Representatives think that there is no future for them without Trump or do they really believe this garbage, if so they should be sacked as they are mentally deficient.

This is his latest attempt to tell the world how le had the election stolen and how badly put together it was.

US House approves Infrastructure Bill, already passed by the Senate. Will this lift Biden’s approval rate, and move the Democrats onward?

Wonder what Trump is thinking.

Very insightful article on the state of American politics in The Guardian today.

Especially if you follow the links in the first paragraph to the academic research behind the article, you will see how applicable it also is to the UK - where it is known that most people support broadly ‘socialist’ policies, but ‘democracy’ actually keeps delivering policies favoured by big corporations and relatively small economic elites.

I see that the U.K. media hasn’t made much of a deal about them evil Republicans in Virginia elected a woman of colour and first generation immigrant as Lieutenant Governor.

Repeat after me :”The Handmaid’s Tale is a work of dystopian fiction.”

As Atwood says herself, there’s nothing invented in THT, everything has happened or was happening in the mid 1980s when it came out. I think if anything it has actually turned out more prescient than one might have thought, the rise of the evangelist new right as a political force is now well established and everything has shifted because of the extremists. Social media helped.

I wonder to what extent future historians (if there are any) will decide that social media was one of the great ills of our time.

OH believes the great ill of our time is the Sony Walkman. From then onwards people became disconnected from the rest of humanity and individuals became isolated, with all the associated mental and emotional damage.

One of the main theses of Marshall McLuhan’s 1964 book Understanding Media was that, as he put it, ‘the medium is the message’: ie. the content of any medium is less important than the way it shapes our behaviour; so, for example, the fact that as television became widespread more and more people sat watching at home alone or in families rather than seeking more communal entertainment, was more significant than what happened to be on television.

My Grandfather thought they were a great invention, people shut up and had to listen to their own thoughts and he said they then realised how much bollocks he had to listen from them over the years :yum::laughing::grin:

Remarkably prescient, although, if you ask me, the original interview is more  impressive.
