Well it must be very difficult to be a minister or a spokesman for the UK government currently.
I mean, you get a briefing on Monday, “This is our categoric policy”, tell your closest professional contacts and friendly journalists on Tuesday, and appear on a radio program on Wednesday morning touting categorically the policy you’ve been ordered to say is the case. Your broadcast goes out to millions. This is, of course, a theoretical example. Oh, wait…
At the same time Liz Truss appears at Prime Minister’s Questions and says the opposite of what she categorically briefed you to say.
Categorically? People often resign when they’re put in this position by the bosses they’re meant to be supporting.
