UK to French Driving Licence Swap - why have i lost categories?

Then if A and B have different dates in column 10, you will get A transferred no problem.

ah ok thanks

and can i only drive something up to 3.5 tonnes now?

I think I replied to you above.

However, you can drive a vehicle up to 3500kg and pull a trailer up to 3500kg (subject to vehicle legally able to).

You can ride a 50cc moped.

A1 would need 7 hour course.

sorry, this thread has become so convoluted with all the responses, plus the order posts are displayed doesn’t always maintain a chonological order

Is there anything else you need clarification of?

well, if you don’t mind - and i don’t recall seeing an answer for this already, is it easy to reinstate some of these categories or must i take a 7.5 tonne licence to go up a notch as it were. It does seem unfair to remove the rights i used to have

This was my reply to your original comment.

There’s so much confusion in this thread so I will try and answer your question.

When did you exchange your licence?

Your A - 79(3) is only a 3 wheeled trike you never had an A licence, but you may have known this.

Your 125cc on your French licence can only be ridden with the 7 hour course as you did not have A1 on your UK licence.
Peut-on conduire un scooter 3 roues ou une moto 125 avec le permis B ? | Service-Public.fr

If you exchanged pre 01/01/2021 you would have been required to supply a medical if you wanted to keep C1/D1 etc. edit: if it was pre, then you would have agreed to renounce so you would need to do a C1 test if you required this category again.

If you exchanged after 01/01/2021 then UK grandad rights are not transferred.

We tried really hard to get this agreed but in the end the French said no.

We all got that if we passed our tests pre 01/01/1997 along with our grandfathered C1/D1 rights on a UK licence, unfortunately the latter is not being transferred.

As A1 was not on the UK licence then you are still required to do the 7 hour test, even though you have A1 on the French licence, it’s because you passed your test before a certain age, but still requires a test, albeit a much easier one.

Sorry Kim,i get totally confused with the licence carry on after Brexit, can you confirm please,if you change your licence now,you won,t get your C or D categories transferred on to your French licence, thanks in advance.

Were you gifted C1/D1 through grandad rights or are you actually asking about C where you took a separate test?

Hi,i sat tests in UK for Cat D and C back in 1996 for D and 1999 for C,is it the case now after Brexit or 2021 that these categories would not be transferred even with a medical?

Category C1 with grandfather rights is a lottery as to whether of not the french grant you the category in your application. The key to gettjng the category appears to be proving that you passed a test for that category I passed an HGV test in 1970 but that’s 54 years ago and impossible now to obtain proof. The only chance you may have is to print out the pages from the DVLA website that show which categories you have and submit it to the french authority, but it’s still a lottery.

thanks… I think i’ll not bother. It took me over over 8 months to get my Permis de Conduire. I think i’ll just stick with what I’ve got

If you passed separate tests for C and D categories, and they are on your licence then it’s a simple exchange with a medical.

If you passed your test for any of these categories but they are missing from your licence you will need a licence extract from the DVLA to show the dates you passed these categories, not a check code or a D737 cert, this is something specific and a medical.

It’s not a lottery, if you passed a test then these will be transferred if you can provide evidence of passing these tests.

Did you renounce them in the UK and are no longer showing on your licence? If yes then you too can apply for an extract of your licence if your C or D category was registered.

Grandfather rights will not be transferred.

Unfortunately there’s no point trying to appeal, you have grandfather rights these are not being transferred as no separate test was passed you were gifted them as you passed your test before 01/01/1997.

But I did, and a couple of pints too :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
