Underwear buying

Vero has got it and agree about Leclerc textiles not up to much. Sloggi is sometimes there and I think in some online catalogues like La Redoute?

If you’re spending money watch for boosted cashbacks in these sorts of retailers on widilo and igraal, possibly ebuyclub and poulpeo, watch out for minimum earnings for payout on whichever you choose and obey all cashback sensibilities like always start fresh browser clean cookies run the transaction straight through in 1 window if you can, don’t use any code not found on same cashback.site.

ps sometimes the cashback sites want you to look at every other retailer and try not to give you a result on search in the cashback site for a popular one (eg Lidl which is quite good for tools consumables like decent saw blades…

But I haven’t time for that and mostly I do an external search in Google instead for the cashback site plus the wanted brand or shop name. Usually that will give me the page for that retailer straight away without forcing me to an IKEA-store type walk past everything else on the cashback site I’m not interested in rather than taking me to what I need

Your comments are really interesting @toryroo . I have never found non-underwired bras that work, nor can I find socks that are a) long enough to wear under trousers without leaving a huge flesh gap and b) don’t leave me with long-lasting deep indentations around the top. I have a couple of pairs of (expensive) Seasalt ones that fulfil both critera but they are extra-thick winter ones so no good for the rest of the year and also require my ever-helpful friend to bring them when she visits.

What’s the problem with bed linen?

Caterpilar work socks on Lidl now and usually again in winter. Other than expensive stuff like Bridgedale, the only ones I’ve found here with some resistance. Reviews agree.

In Heat Holders socks for winter (Aldi UK used to sell as Deep Heat at a fraction of the price) the Workforce ones last a lot longer but that’s relative, however totally reliable warm, forget the women’s sizings as there is overall less material in them so they wear quicker.

It’s the quality! They all seem to be about 55 thread count. In Australia the basic kids range is 85 and I’d tend to get at least 200 as that was still a good price. And that’s just at Target, nowhere fancy!

I was in my local big Etam today for research purposes, there is a dazzling array (sometimes literally, gold anyone? Diamanté?) of underwear but also the “invisible” sort and lots of cotton etc. so go and look, lots of lovely colours and every style imaginable. Also pyjamas and, in a discreet corner, shapewear.

My daughter is very pleased with her nice new chic maillot une-pièce

Look for socks for people with diabetes. Soft top socks. Can’t remember the brand I have but a thick’ish sole and then gentle grip round the calf.

Looks like there’s a small one in Avranches which I could investigate… thanks @vero

Ma Boutique Plus. They are sold in Carrefour but they are also on line for home delivery or delivery to a Carrefour of your choice. I’ve been buying my underwear from them for years especially their guipure lace range.

There can be a problem with underwired bras.
They can cause a certain type of constriction pain.
I suffered with this when it wasn’t understood and later found out that the male doctor had put down in my notes that it was all in my mind.

That’s shocking Jane!

Not surprising.
When I moved to Maidstone and had a new lady doctor, she called me in to tell me that there were very derogatory remarks made by several male doctors and I needed to know about it.
This was before we had the right to see our notes.
Also when I was working as a medical secretary in Maidstone, one woman was referred to as this extremely obese and unpleasant woman.
Fortunately for me when we moved to the Cotswolds my notes got lost.
Now my onchologist is a very nice young woman who actually listens to me and understands that my body operates quite differently from the norm.
My case is discussed amongst a team who work with extremely rare cancers, so now I am not the odd one out.

Asda George deliver to France and over the years I’ve been really happy with their “nickers” and bras, I too was a M&S girl.

Thanks @kim - I’d never even considered Asda but it does look promising

Tx Kim. Had a quick look. At first glance it looks like Asda can give French sellers at this kind of level a run for their money! the Asda stuff seems to have nice style choice.

Do Asda send DDP (taking UK VAT off and replacing it with French TVA) so as to avoid extra charges from La Poste or couriers, or do they ship to France from somewhere in Europe which would also avoid extra charges at delivery…?

If not I’ll be marking Asda down for a visit when I next visit the UK…

Thanks for the tip, I’ve bought lots over the years and used to do an order a couple of times a year as kids clothes are excellent from there at a good price. Last time i looked they’d stopped post brexit but obviously sorted it out now! I have some undies I bought probably 8 years ago, they are still really good but way too big for me now!

Looked yesterday in IM at some ilof the DIM ones, not cheap!!

Hi Karen, I’m not sure, but I get them impression they have an address in europe which enables them to post here.

I haven’t actually bought anything this route yet, just found it when searching Asda a while back.

Ladies, how about eBay? I once got 13 pairs Y-Fronts for £1. I was the only bidder which was not surprising because they were described as ‘slightly soiled’. But I took the trouble to ask the seller what that meant.

"Found a box of them in a stock-take in the warehouse. Been there for ages. Just a bit dusty.’

And so they were - 12 white, one red. Being a dopey bloke I washed the 12 white with the one red and they all came out pink!

Following your helpful suggestion, I bought some lightweight cotton diabetic/soft top socks in cotton and they are brilliant! The breathe nicely, are comfortable, don’t grip but do stay up (much to my surprise). Very happy, thank you!
