Visa validation help please

Hello everyone

I am trying to validate our visas after our arrival.

On the online form, it asks for ‘motif’ which is marked on our visa as ‘visiteur’ then it asks for a ‘reference reglementaire’ and the box only gives me two options, neither of which we have marked on our visas. I cannot pass to the next step without filling in that box.

Help please !!!

It rather depends on the tyoe of visa you have and any observations/remarks associated with it. You might be better off popping into your local sous-préfecture, Mairie or the Notaire who handled your purchase and asking for their advice.

Thanks Brian, I’ve just looked up the two codes that we have to choose from and discovered one is for salaried/workers and the other for non workers so can now make my selection

Excellent! A bit of googling can work wonders - assuming your broadband is up to it

You are right about the broadband. Prehistoric here

Anyway, I am now further on in the form but it just will NOT accept our address, not even the postcode will work, so no idea what to do next as I cannot validate our visas unless I get an address to work. Oh the wonders of flaming technology grrrrrrr

Any idea how to get an address into the form???

Personally, I would visit the sub-prefect or your Mairie… just to make sure all the “answers/boxes ticked” are actually what you need… ie I seem to recall that non-worker means you must NOT “earn money” during the Visa… and not everyone realizes the implication… they do a little online or whatever and can find themselves in breach… aaaargh.

and… re the address… again, the Mairie should be able to help… perhaps you now have a new address (we certainly do… happened last year I think… ) it’s been causing some laughter and some tears of frustration …

best of luck

Hi Stella, I get your drift on the non-working thing. I am definitely not working, fully retired now hurrah!

I’m wondering like you if the best thing is to just go the sous prefecture and do the whole thing face to face rather than struggling with this new fangled way (being older doesn’t always mix well with technology). Now we have our car delivered - another hurrah - we can get to the Mairie or sous prefecture easily

Not sure if you have the page translated to English, i have found occasionally that i needed to get it back to the original language and then i could complete the form, not for this specific form but generally.

Using all the sites in French as I don’t mind if in either language. I defo can’t get past it so will be visiting the Mairie / Sous Prefecture.

Thanks everyone

There is the normal postcode, then there’s the INSEE postcode, the department number (1st 2) is the same but the last 3 are usually different - might be worth trying

Go to your nearest France Services. Most marie’s (apart from Stella’s miraculous one) don’t know about visa validation and few sous-préfectures allow walk in visitors. Yours of course might, but check before you go!

Thanks Mark and JaneJones

I tried with just the first two digits of postcode but even then there are no choices at all which the system is finding.

I shall try the Mairie first and see if they know about it, then France Services or book an appointment at the sous prefecture.

Who would think this would be so hard (of course we expect all things administratifs to be a bit tricky). But given you are told to do the process online I would have expected it to function?

Has nobody done this?

Do you have the new number that has been ascribed to your house?
This can be picked up from the Mairie free of charge.
This might be why you are having difficulty with yo3 address.

That is weird - they can’t have wiped out a whole department! Try another address in your commune to see if it is a big bug! Preferably one without hyphens, abbreviations and saints as these frequently mess up systems

Many of the regulars in here are long term residents, and processes change! We try our best to keep up to date…

indeed it is very odd, I even tried a big address in Paris but got nothing, also tried our previous address in France from years ago, then tried the first two digits of several departmets… all nothing found… maybe try again later?

That is very interesting about the codes and I think invaluable for anybody trying to do this, so thank you. I did google them and found at least the one which matched which it seemed happy with.

It’s the address thing I cannot get around

BTW JaneJones, I’m sorry if I came across as criticising, I did not mean to. Everyone long term regulars on here are very helpful, including yourself. My apologies!

Thank you Jane… it seems that you and I are on the same wavelength…

I am aware that the “adressage” which has been put in place across France… has caused more than a few hiccups… and it seemed worthwhile suggesting @blade46 visit her Mairie… to check on things.

You are both so right and I did check our ‘new address’ on https://adresse.data.gouv.fr/ first of all. Lo and behold it had changed. But still for the site not to recognise even a department or Paris is most peculiar!

Mind you, our factrice only recognises the old address

Be grateful that your Postie will deliver items bearing the old address !!!

I have it on good authority that there was a move afoot to “return to sender” items which do not bear the “new” address…

However, there was mutiny in the ranks… the Posties reckoned that would be most unfair to Households who can’t be held responsible for the “address” on their incoming post… and they continue to deliver stuff regardless… hurrah.
EDIT: If it’s not been done already, you’ll need to fix the housenumber/whatever you get from your Mairie… so that the Emergency Services can locate you, should you ever need to call 'em (heaven forbid).
best of luck…
