Watching them squirm

Oh dear do you think any government was qualified to deal with that??!!! Not at all. It was a nightmare which arose and they did their bedst right or wrong

I think many governments did considerably better than the Westminster crew both practically and morally and were evidently far less corrupt.

If you have been watching the inquiry evidence you wouldn’t be questioning this governments total incompetence, unless you were a dyed in the wool Tory supporter.
They dithered and played with people’s lives, partied while people were dying all around them and lined there own, friends and families pockets, may they rot in hell the lot of them.

No they did not. They did the best they could. Anybody else would have done no better without hindsight. It was s national emergency. They did what they thought best. I cant imagine what anyone else would have done with less effect damage

They failed to prepare.

We all knew that Covid was coming in November the previous year. Just prior to the UK govt had closed the department to prepare for such events.

A huge amount of money was given to a very small number of people that profiteered from events.

The whole process was an absolute shambles.

Protective ring thrown around care homes - utter, utter nonsense.

In some ways it was worse than that. They took the lessons from Project Cygnus and basically threw them away. Literally in some cases as things like running out of PPE had been predicted and some had been stockpiled but was not renewed when it went out of date

As for “did the best that they could”, possibly but the best they could was woefully inadequate and demonstrated they were fundamentally unsuited to government.

They emphatically did not do “as well as anybody could”.

You’re at it again :joy: Try a spot of research, for example have you watched any of the Inquiry or read any reports as @Griffin36 and @_Brian suggested? I watched Cummins and Helen MacNamara from beginning to end. Two people who couldn’t be less alike IMO but they had one message, Johnson was totally incompetent and one might say in the early stages gung-ho and blasé. The Italians were idiots and the UK would have the “bestest” pandemic response of any country, ever (heard that from him on a lot of things). Hancock lied about “the plan”, though he did demonstrate his imaginary cricket bat. Subsequent evidence revealed that he believed that he, not the medical profession, should decide who lived and died. It all a disaster Blade.

I’m looking forward to watching Johnson and Hancock in due course.

 You’re at it again? Just saying what I think which is what you are doing or am I not allowed to do so?

For once I agree with @blade46

They did their best.

In much the same way as a chimpanzee might do its best to understand orbital mechanics.

There you go again, trying to make out a chimpanzee is not more compassionate and intelligent than Boris Johnson :yum::laughing:

I listened to Patrick Grant, of Savile Row and Sewing Bee fame, explaining how three companies, one of which was his, got together in Lancashire and made ppe.
He also explained to the government how the many thousands of women with sewing machines would be willing to work at home and produce scrubs.
The government turned him down on grounds of health and safety!
Totally incomprehensible.
Totally irresponsible and totally insulting to those women who would have willingly helped out, but who were not Tory funders.

Of course you are but, similarly, others are allowed to challenge you when it’s arrant nonsense.

Not really Jane, a Tory politician, family member or friend wasn’t going to make money out of the venture so it was turned down, simples :face_with_raised_eyebrow::confused:

As good an opinion of the Covid enquiry as others, by Andrew Rawnsley of the Observer, with chief witness swear words in full!

Aah so my opinion is “nonsense” ? However yours is valid? I am neither ignorant nor am i “not well read” nor do I have to research what you want me to. There is no need to add that kind of comment to posts. Treating people with a differing opinion as if they were idiots. It is just a difference of opinion no more.

Most posts are backed up by UK newspapers which have no regulation; or by social media which has none either. I suppose what a member said a while back is true. One gravitates to those who agree. Thus not expanding ones own thoughts but rather seeking consolidation in those which are already entrenched.

Take a look at the tablet mag and the global progrom (note spelling). Grant it is media so who knows but it hits a mark.

Appalling chants and slogans have been heard at pro Palestinian demonstrations making many scared. Inciting real hatered and violence. In France homes and buildings have been tagged to show Jews living there. Reminds the French of the 30s! This is free speech gone wrong and democracy has failed.

These are terrible times and people on a forum having a go at those who donot agree with horrid condescending phrases does not help one jot.

Better to offer solutions than constantly find “friends” to back up your opinion and shutdown an opposing view.

After all if there is a peace and solution to be had both sides need to be listened to do they not?

So impossibly awful.

You are permitted by this very liberal and tolerant website, to voice your opinions as long as they are in civil language and respectful of others.

In reciprocity, you are then expected to accept that others may not agree with your views and that they may actively contradict them. All in civil manner.

Using links to media sites that others may wish to read is a way of sharing information and opinions. No more.

Not all people gravitate towards others with the same opinions. Just as not all people see others as a combat challenge for arguments.

You’ve got me there. What is a ‘progrom’ please?
