Thanks Cat. Our retainer was playing fast and loose with our maid despite being married, so your tip comes just in time to save our gravel.
We are contemplating strimming our border! But to do the job properly, digging wxup the grass and bulbs and putting the bulbs back is the sensible solution.
I’ve seen it said it’s against the law but isn’t that for selling it to unlicenced users? I’ve yet to see what the is penalty is for using it.
Pelargonic acid is a waste of time, merely burns the foliage.
Round Up is a con’ here in France.
Try some of this, it seems to have more than Pelargonic A. Bought mine in Leclerc.
The brand name is Clairland
The only solution that is really effective is to get on hands and knees and nanually weed resign yourself to big clean up then do very very regular maintenance…or decide to live with the weeds, i speak from bitter experience.
I think the law is clear yet stupid at the same time.
As an individual I cannot buy or use any product containing Glyphosate for use on my path yet the farmer who’s land border’s mine is able to use it so if the wind is blowing in a certain direction then his spray ends up on the same path and kills the same weeds that I have to pull out by hand, bonkers.
I used to get told off for this - “PICK YOUR BLOODY FEET UP - YOU WILL WEAR YOUR SHOES OUT!”
Been there !!!
I don’t think that’s pelargonic at all - it’s chelated iron plus some fertiliser.
They sell 5l bidons of 14% vinegar in supermarkets, if that’s any help.
For about a fiver? So much cheaper
Thats what I have been using.
If you are holding a hoe at the time while doing this, that’s even better. From someone else who has no old faithful retainer - well I do actually, but he doesn’t do gardening beyond the mowing.
@Geof_Cox sent me a DM where he pointed out that I was not exactly friendly to @Toovey27 in this thread, unjustifiably so in fact.
On reflection I think he is right - so, @Toovey27 please accept my apology for my behaviour.
I haven’t been in this conversation do you mean @Toovey27 ?
Ah, my second apology of the day - yes I did mean @Toovey27
Thanks Billy - I in turn should also have added that your social media etiquette is normally exemplary.
Mind you, I still don’t see what those poor little weeds have done to deserve such ire…
I know a bank whereon the wild thyme blows,
Where ox-lips and the nodding violet grows;
Quite overcanopied with lush woodbine,
With sweet musk roses, and with eglantine…
Small children on balance bikes going round circles have a similar effect. (One of my dreams is that my life will become so zen that I can spend an hour every morning raking the gravel into elegant patterns. It has yet to happen.)
Thanks for that @Geof_Cox , that really brightened up my evening. It really does bring a tear to my eye.
Edit: For a very particular reason, all tied up with love and the early 80’s.
