WILD garden here, so Full of Life.
BeGreen, my very-happy rabbit, giving a good hand including in my precious plot… Wild raspberries, blackberries, strawberries for free magically ending in delicious syrups, or other beauties as toxic teas. Seriously, Weeds are Vital for Biodiversity to better grow. Not necessarely beautiful as defined by repressed & chemical & carcinogenic modern culture But VITAL. Nettle for instance, wrongfully named
" mauvaise herbe (bad weed)" is the best guarantee ever of the good quality of any soil, in cleansing it while providing plenty of nutrients for Diversity of Plants to be able to blossom properly : yes yes. And Weeds are loaded with health benefits compared to very-attractive-plants, beauty can be tricky…However, just a matter of BALANCE, lagom so : “Just Enough”. According to how far humans slaughter Nature on Earth, and themselves consequently : best is to avoid any carnage to let Life Flourish & Balance itself. Very calming, very healing, very uplifting activity. Your whole being, barefoot recommended (neighbourless naked ?), will feel far better for its own wonderful sake as well ! Changing our view on this magnificent yet destroyed natural world is sooo BENEFICIAL.

Simply, as plenty wise already said : NO CHEMICALS, life-killers to be absolutely Honest. Let it go, around & within yourself. And if really needed : do it by hands, here & there. It’s a precious moment to ensure your whole body from head to toes to reconnect with LIFE. That’s just so fulfiilling & constructive at Any level. Simple, Alive and Free

Au boulot !

Not sure that my sense of well-being would be enhanced by seeing mes voisins naked (even fully dressed and sans make-up, one would still pass for Danny deVito as Batman’s adversary, The Penguin). But in any case, I don’t think les voisins would too keen on that either.

Speaking of nettles, long been known they are little powerhouses of nutrition but how to use?
Suggestions?

Take the top say 6 leaves and use them like spinach or blette leaves. Delicious. Then stick the rest of the plant in a big barrel add water and let it macerate and you should get fertiliser at some stage (very hazy on the details as hearsay from my German granny). If you are really green I suppose you could treat the stalks like flax is bury them in a marsh then fish them out and wash and spin the fibres ( other methods no doubt exist). :slightly_smiling_face:

Pinch out the top 4 or so small leaves on several nettle plants that are not flowering and put them in a tea infuser. We use those cute teapots that have the infuser in the top. Pour over hot water just off the boil, leave for 5 minutes and it makes a lovely refreshing green tea. We’ve been drinking it every afternoon for about a year now on the advice of a herbalist friend.
First time he tried it OH thought I was poisoning him - after a day or two he thought it delicious.
Because I am doing this every day there are always patches of nettles in the garden that are not flowering so I can always find fresh new green leaves.
Any tea left in the pot goes on the plants. I’ve also got nettle leaves like @vero says rotting down nicely in bucket with a bit of watere as a concentrated pick me up for the garden. Good idea to keep out the way as very smelly. Small amount added to a watering can.

We do the same as Vero and Sue suggested but not the tea for me. Also Mrs W sometimes stings herself with them when in pain with arthritis before applying green clay. Says it reduces the pain considerably.

I think I will swap the spud for sweet potato.

We held on for six weeks, thought each day were the last.
We tarried an’ shifted till we were quite fast.
We lived upon nettles while nettles were good.
An’ Waterloo porrage were best o’ us food.

What is Waterloo porrage ?

Nettle is detoxifying your belly & blood while providing an endless of nutrients for your body to better work on. Same process than with the soil, indeed, or algae for the sake of water. Just use PURE Nettle as much as possible, far from polluted areas (intensive agriculture, roads etc) as it will have done its job before being put in your body : less efficient in addition to be a “chemical” spreader within, which is Not the purpose at all. Nettle before industrialisation of everything was 100 % safe everywhere. So Pure as much as possible, Wild & Free (coasting the Earth for no more than 10 leaves in Biocoop, sincerely…). It is recommended to do 2 cures per year of around 1 month each, in automn and spring. I can’t do more than 3 weeks of Nettle tea, part of my body reacts in a certain way. The moon might be moody…

Plenty of other uses as others mentioned, fertilizer, pest repellent, Gastronomy (yes Delicious indeed : fashionable nowadays more & more but in 10 stars restaurant…although a “poor” meal for centuries), Health benefits for sure etc. Check on internet, plenty of very useful informations as well.

Phytotherapists are used to say that if there’s 1 plant to choose to go on a remote island : Nettle. Among loads of, 5 times more Vitamin C than in citrus. Very nutritionally Rich. As precious as Dandelion, Burdock easily found in wild Nature as well, pick them up in Spring (eventually autumn as well) and DRY in a shadowed place for about 2 weeks to keep them through the whole year as wished. Don’t mess with plants if unknown, they can be tricky specifically if beautiful : LOVE them.

Once again : what is Waterloo porrage ? Merci

Names of toxins? Details of the metabolic pathways that nettle activates to break down those toxins?

Otherwise it’s all pseudo-scientific bunkum, isn’t it?

I wasn’t going to go there. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m afraid you will have to do your own research thanks to wonderful internet. Impossible to be a perfect expert. Certainly not ALL of toxins but a certain number : Nettle has a good amount of anti-oxydants so far. Some random people say that Nettle can “absorb” heavy metals, unlike “naughty” scientists : I wouldn’t go so far myself, Nettle can (or not) have so many capacities so far to remove the hardest ones to get rid of (heavy metals not to repeat myself). However, Internet is a wondeful tool nowadays : Good research !

Science has some proof, technically. Science for decades now can biologically check the molecules available in any organism, for instance. Science is not perfect like everything and I’m not gonna enter that subject as Life is widely Imperfect as a matter of fact : butchering each other can be very useful against deadful Overpopulation, human’s speciality, and I honestly know how far I can be good in it yet Wise I prefer being . It is up to everyone to believe or not to something, fair enough. So once again, good research since according to your precise question, it could be a long one (research). There will never be a Perfect answer, just in case. Plants were practically used for millenia, it was far better known how to use them both to heal or definitively get rid of embarassing people around : wouldn’t dare treating plants like sh*t, they contain Molecules so are undeniably useful in Humble varying ways…

I’m just wondering how it will be if I dare saying I’m Vegan ? AK47 or door shut ? Exhausted in advance…Cool, Relax : any lily tea ?

And sorry if it has been taken in that way…probably that wasn’t the purpose, of yours I mean (“somethingbutcher” forum name). Bear in mind that, unlike you, I communicate sometimes (as less as possible) with a more & more agressive culture (violent ?). I Abhor some conflicts that are absolute non-sense, not to say deleterious. No worries, life has far enough of them. Make your OWN research is the best advice ever. But the Reality is that thanks to “so-clever-humans”, Billions of toxins have been invented so Impossible for just 1 plant to destroy All of them, just Impossible. Cheers,

Which is what people incapable of backing up their claims *always* say, I’m afraid.

No, I don’t think anyone is going to have a problem with that.

Wuh?

You’re a grown-up now, supposed to be. No more comment, wisely. I have this Strong Humility to admit how Life is really : IMPERFECT. Magnesium would be highly advised. And probably more,

To untie the knots within coming from childhood to varying hard experiences in life, get out of Vietnam war and The Best of The Big Lebowski - YouTube HEAL. Huge movie with huge music & huge good energies, isn’t it ?

To better move on…COURAGE, everybody can do it !
