Those of us who follow the news are very much aware of the danger to democracy happening in the USA at the moment.
You are right in saying that because we don’t live there we can’t really feel the danger on a day to day basis.
What we cannot understand is how the USA could even allow someone who refused to accept the validity of an election and who tried to persuade politicians to find more votes in certain places was even allowed to stand again.
We see the rise of the extreme right here in Europe and many of its adherent are young men who are not concerned about history and do not realise its relevance.
Our grandsons live in Munich and the teaching of the rise of Hitler is mandatory in schools.
The danger of young people getting their news or brainwashg from social media is universal.
You can blame Mitch McConnell for that, who saw it happening , knew that Trump was to blame for it and just let it slide.
He basically said that punishing Trump was a matter for the courts, which he, himself, was instrumental in corrupting.
In my opinion, Trump should have been impeached , convicted and out of office by January 8th 2021, at the latest. I am still shocked that none of our enemies took advantage of the chaos that happened between Jan 6 and 20th, 2021.
I have always been impressed with how strong Germany is on all cults, be they the moonies, the Mormons or far right evangelical christianity. Many years ago I got to spend some time with Ursula Caberta who was a government minister in Hamburg and became known as one of the go-to people in the government for cult knowledge and expertise and she was exceptionally knowledgeable and was someone who got things done. She’s long since retired but the work she mdis today is still central to the German government’s philosophy on extremist groups of all kinds. What ever form it may take, they seem to understand Never Again means Never Again.

Minnesota State Rep Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were murdered in their home. Yes, their Golden Retriever, Gilbert, was killed as well - technically so badly injured that he had to be euthanized.
The suspected gunman is in custody and has been charged. He has pleaded not guilty. His wife just filed for divorce.
In addition, he shot Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, but not fatally.
Nine bullets, to be exact.
