I am aiming for a ‘No Spend” month but we had to buy Monsieur some new socks as his all had holes in! I say we, obviously he doesn’t expect me to keep him in socks but I do the online ordering because that’s beyond him Except when it comes to buying paintings but that’s another story…
Anyway, he is incredibly picky when it comes to socks and they have to be 100% cotton, and just “right” - whatever that may be.
Until now he’s spent a fortune on the type of socks that say that they have been home spun by the alpacas that donated the wool etc etc but times have changed and we’re on an economy drive.
I suggested online. He pulled a face. I found these. Went ahead and ordered. He pulled more faces. The socks arrived. He loves them! And that is saying something…
Highly recommend these if you or your nearest and dearest want some very good quality but reasonably priced socks!!
unfortunately I’m not in the market for socks. In the summer, my partner (who’s a lot more organised than I am) decided she would reorganise my wardrobe, cupboards and chests of drawers. I left her to it.
Later she re-emerged and said “Do you remember how you said you couldn’t find a shirt to wear yesterday?” and proceeded to tell me I had 38 shirts, 36 pairs of socks, 41 pairs of pants and more.
I in fact looked at my stockpile of socks yesterday and suddenly realised that, at my age, I might not need to buy socks ever again!
I am in the same position with socks - I am amply s(t)ocked.
A week or so ago I did have a clearout of shirts and jeans that I never wear any more and took four black bin bags full to the British Red Cross charity shop!
Any semi-posh shirts I own are gifts from other people - I am tighter than a duck’s wotsit when it comes to buying clothes for myself, so usually end up with something from Sainsbury’s high-end designer label Tu range, or at a push M&S.
I do however spend a reasonable sum if I buy a pair of shoes, usually Rieker. Well £65 seems quite a lot to me!
I wear odd socks when one gives up the ghost. Not as if anyone can see under jeans and shoes anyway and saves me dosh not having to buy new ones until really necessary. My tip is to ask yourself if you really do need it and can something you already have make do instead, always works for me especially where kitchen gadgets are concerned as if you think back, our mums didn’t have them and turned out delicious meals and cakes etc plus the thought of dismantling and washing by hand always puts me off because we know how dishwashers ruin things that you are told are safe to go in but come out in a bad way.
