Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! 🙂) (Part 2)

You’ve linked your images to their location on your Google Drive, which unfortunately won’t work - unless you give us all unfettered access to your drive which I imagine you don’t want to do!

You need to have the images on your actual computer and then upload them from there, that should work.

Glad you’ve seen the light

Ooh do you have a link for the voting code please?

Yes I too am thinking wistfully of the fundamental respect for objective standards of behaviour in the UK this week. Trust me I am besieged with delivery problems for 2 months now and Customer Service? what’s that for? .And just found out it’s my fault if I expected a French bank to process something given to them without also checking their homework.

Certainly…

I have to add getting my UK State Pension and S1 to this list. Perhaps not as universal an experience but DWP overseas answered the phone within a few minutes, completed the application with me on the phone which took maybe 15 or 20 minutes and then pension and S1 letter appeared as promised four weeks later (I had phoned a month in advance of The Date).

And so it has proved. Engine damaged, he can’t take on such a job, he has rung 2 larger garages, they can do nothing 'till September so it is now a case of seeking other solutions and hoping for the goodwill of Mario that I can continue the use of the Berlingo. Ah well, what with the shed, the laptop, punctures on the trike and the garden trailer it really wouldn’t do for something to go right, now would it?

To be continued, possibly elsewhere.

I am shaking with cautious optimism. Shaking because, @toryroo and the shed apart, I am not used to good news lately.

Hannes returned as promised today to put the car back together so it can be towed away if I can find a destination. But instead he did what he did not want to do and started to look inside the engine, the damage seemed to be confined to the cam shaft and he had already bought a replacement so gingerly installed it.

Then with immense courage he started the engine and when I came back from the Mondial disaster, did it again. Smooth as custard on its tickover, to my ears anyway, and no hint of the bag of nails of recent days.

He has gone off for his lunch and will return to complete the task and present me with his bill. You never know, if I can overcome the Mondial problem I may be able to afford it. :joy:

I have just posted in the not cheerful thread that A have decided to let me keep the laptop but have still released the full refund to me.

2 sets of good news in an hour, I might have to go and lie down.

What a bargain! Merrell recently did the same for me: I’d bought a pair of trainers that were supposed to be waterproof, but one of them let in a very, very, very small amount of water. I was annoyed at having paid for a faulty item, so I contacted their customer service, sent the photos they asked for, cut off the label from the trainers as requested, and was refunded whilst keeping the pair. I was told they take their reputation very seriously  .

Well that’s a result! Hope the car shenanigans go the same way!

My cheerful news is that my ZWO astrophotography camera is on its way back from the UK importers after having been away for two months being repaired…

The parts had to come from China of course.

Mind you once it’s back I am probably guaranteeing continuous cloud and rain for all of us for the next two months - which will be welcomed by many!

(Oh and I found $180 US in an envelope in a drawer, which I forgot I had. Which was nice. It has rapidly been converted in to pounds, as I am unlikely to go to Trumpland any time soon.)

Apologies! I hope you have extremely clear skies for the forseeable future!

My daughter is visiting and we thought we would do an overnight in Tours, simply on the basis that, other than IKEA, we haven’t really been there.

Anyway, after a couple of chateau stops, we got as far as Chinon and I was simply too tired to drive any further (blooming hormone therapy but it should start wearing off in a few weeks) so we’re staying there and it’s delightful.

We found a hotel but they declined to match their booking.com price, asking 50% more, so we ended up in the cutest little apartment. I think that’s a win all round.

Chinon is great.

I’d be interested in any restaurant recommendations. We used to go to L’entrepôts (I think it was called that) but he closed last year and we’re not there often enough to have found somewhere new.

There’s a great papeterie there, should you need to stock up on stationery.

I don’t think I can really help you there. As we walked around at 18h, we were lulled into a false sense of security, as there was hardly anyone around, so we didn’t try to book a table. I guess everyone was in hiding because when we came out at 19h30, just about everywhere was complet.

We ended up eating here which isn’t going to be for everyone.

It was a a case of eat and drink what you’re given with the only choice being between red or rosé. It was more a series of snacks than a meal but we really enjoyed it, with some amazing rillette, bread from the wood-fired oven and a nice, if quite inoffensive, red.

I wouldn’t say don’t do it but don’t expect haute cuisine.

Looks characterful, anyway! Thanks.

Bonne route.
