The reason he’s there is because he wants a cuddle. He was found as a 3-week-old kitten in a plastic bag hanging on a gate post about 14 years ago. I bottle fed him.

Because he was deprived of his mother so young, he needs his ā€˜fix’ now and again, meaning he wants to sit on my chest with a piece of my t-shirt between his teeth, sucking. Once he’s had his fix, he falls asleep.

My poor old cat Toerag has a doubled-ended problem, caused I think by being deprived of his mother at three weeks of age. At one end he sucks a bit of my tee-shirt, gripped between his teeth, while treading his front paws on either side, which kittens do to encourage the flow of milk , and at the other end, he starts treading his back legs up and down, which is what a male cat does when he tries to mate. A male cat will scrape the female’s rear legs, while gripping the scruff of her neck, to encourage her to swing her tail sideways so that mating can take place.

He’s suckling and trying to mate at the same time, and sometimes gets into a real frenzy. Which is when I put a stop to it, and then he falls asleep.

Grainy old photo - this is my Abyssinian cat, Abby, back in Islington London before I had any ideas about moving to France. More a dog than a cat. She accompanied me across Islington one day, just like a dog, but without a lead, on a 30-minute walk to collect my car I’d left outside a pub. As soon as I opened the back door, she jumped in without prompting – a dear member of my family.

But her official status under UK law was as a piece of property, like a chair, a table or my car - then and as of today about 45 years later.

I was surprised to hear that from Care2 yesterday – thought the UK had moved on.

A trip to the veterinary clinic with an annoyed & noisy pussycat. Lucky was not distressed and purred all the while he was examined by the vet. But he got upset again as soon as we left the clinic.

Pet cats in my experience don’t like trips in the car, so best get kittens used to it to avoid the upset as adults. In comparison, semi-wild and wild cats, on their way to be neutered, make no sound at all surprisingly.

If you’ve nothing better to do for 13 mins & 11 seconds, here’s what cat owners have to put up with on a journey to the vet and back. In my case about 30 minutes in total, miaow, miaow, miaow, miaow, ad infinitum. He calmed down as soon as he jumped out of the car back home.

Here’s the noisy blighter, stained with Betadine. A nasty looking and quite large ā€˜polyp’ just inside his ear, has been removed, but could be cancerous. Waiting for biopsy.

He’s otherwise in excellent condition.

A fine stout cat.

She likes sitting in this bucket and in this watering can, but I can’t get a decent pic of her in either.

I’m waiting for her to peek out of the watering can at the same time I have the camera handy, but might have to do a bit of photoshopping instead!

I am surprised by the high quality of your dashcam video.
Also noticed that it records your speed.

Could you advise what model it is??

I’m glad your pusscat is home and on the mend.

I played your dash cam video and my dogs rushed over to sniff my phone. I wonder if different species understand basic calls of another? Or, maybe they were just worried I was getting anew AI cat. :cat:

It’s a tiny gps dashcam with a big punch. Garmin 56

I thought it was just a video camera but it also warns you when you exceed the speed limit, when you go over a white line and when stopped traffic in front of you starts moving. It will also ā€˜save’ a video (doesn’t get overwritten) if you have an accident, a bump, with another car.

I’m happy with my Garmin!

Edit added - just looked at the price on Amazon FR! 400 euros, expensive! Didn’t pay that much when I bought it. I see that the next model, 57, is 180 euros. Don’t understand. Why the difference?

Just found out that I bought mine in 2022 through Amazon UK for £139.47 in total.

Lucky had a cancerous tumour but after two operations he was a candidate for 4 sessions of radiotherapy in a Bordeaux clinic, with an 80% chance of being cancer free. I hope his name keeps him in good stead.

I’d be a rich man but for vet fees over the years!

Lovely though, unfortunately, one of 5 feral cats that have taken up residence under an abris. Lovely to have around but I suspect I’m going to need to take some action to avoid being overrun.

Maybe talk to your Mairie (@Stella!).

Our Marie has kind volunteers who catch and have feral cats in the village neutered. They tattoo the ears so everyone knows who’s been ā€˜done’.

Doesn’t stop them coming around and foraging about but is kinder for them overall.

Very upset yesterday when I found lovely ā€œgingeā€, the roux cat from next door who is always coming to see me, dead on the corner of the road. Obviously been hit by a car and it reminded me why we always kept all of our cats indoors at night. I had to go and wake up the owner but when I came back from market the corpse had gone so it must have been him.

Oh how sad. A beautiful cat was run over before my eyes when I was in my car with my daughter, we had stopped because we saw him coming out of the vines - the car coming the other way was going too fast and never even slowed down, killed him outright. Vile people.

Tried that and got a shrug of the shoulder and there don’t appear to be any charitable setups within range. I’m going to pass by the local vet and see if they’ll offer any advice or a bulk discount to get them neutered.
