EV - buy or wait?

These ICEs should really be banned

Oh, wait…

Ice fire, fire brigade arrives, uses foam, water, fire goes out.
EV fire, fire brigade arrives, sprays foam, water, fire burns and burns and burns

I was mildly intrigued to read a review on the electric Megane, which said that it had a dedicated connection to allow the emergency services to run cooling water through the battery.

It looks like all 1405 cars will be written off when the building is demolished due to being unsafe.

Is that a bit like reformed smokers :joy::joy::joy:

Vaguely wondering did Luton Airport have an insurance policy that covers these cars. Or do people have to claim on their own car insurance. And if so, do premiums then increase notably over the next 5 years.

Logically everyone would have to claim against the owner of the car that started the fire.

Now that would  be a nightmare.

As if one needed further reasons for avoiding Luton…

Interestingly the Black Belt Barrister comes to the same conclusion (ish)

Dunno if this guy is worth paying any attention to - but he’s wondering if it was actually a hybrid (OK, on rather thin evidence)

I’ve not watched the YouTube video, for no other reason than the title and the emoji look like clickbait… but FullFact published something confirming it was a diesel vehicle not a hybrid (the URL is masked in this post but it is “electric-hybrid-did-not-start-luton-airport-car-park-fire/”). I find they’re usually pretty impartial.

No more than any other YT video - he’s a bit ranty and I don’t know if there is any reason one might think he knows what he’s talking about, but that describes a lot of YTers.

Yes, he’s definitely not alone in using those techniques. It’s a particular bugbear of mine… along with inane posts on social media such as “10 guilt-free foods you can eat all day - number 9 will really blow your mind!!!”

I know they’re just doing it to play the YouTube algorithm and get more views which, in turn, leads to more ad revenue. But, in the same way that I don’t read Daily Mail or other tabloid papers, I try to make a stand by avoiding clickbait-y YouTube videos.

Rant over… I feel better now

PS - contrast it with the Blackbelt Barrister’s thumbnail and title… you can very quickly tell which one is going to be knowledgable and which one is the online equivalent of Julia Hartley-Brewer

No, he’s painful, I watched another one of his rants and one was enough. Seems to know about spanners and torque wrenches though, if not electrons.

Painfull but he isnt far off the mark for Range Rovers, they aren’t what they used to be. Also uses big words for an Aussie :joy:

On the 900 mile trip home from Scotland we saw broken down, 1 Tesla, 1 Peugeot 307, 1 BMW 530e, 6 various types of Range Rovers.

I didn’t watch it so I don’t know what his comment was but my wife’s new Defender had nothing but problems when we were in Dubai. I really liked how the car looked and it was big enough to keep her and my daughter safe but silly things broke. I got a call from her once from outside our daughter’s school where she was waiting to pick her up, the fan belt pulley had sheered off. That wouldn’t do much good if you were half way up the Limpopo  and other time it dumped the fuel tank contents in a supermarket car park. The locals ran for their lives :face_with_hand_over_mouth: so RR fire in a car park wouldn’t surprise me

Yes, but as Eric Morecambe would say, not necessarily in the right order :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
