EV - buy or wait?

I have been enjoying a bit of flat six driving today, after 21 years of owning and driving the car I still haven’t got tired of the soundtrack.

I am sure that will be appreciated by all the people he has “roared” past.

Why not, turns a few heads and when I eventually visit, I shall demand a ride too as well as in his Hellcat, now that does roar!

It would turn my head but not in adoring appreciation :grinning:

No, but you do have a particular position to maintain.

Full disclosure - In my youth, I used to have a 1953 Vincent Black Shadow with a straight through Burgess “silencer”. I would formally like to apologise to all my neighbours whom I must have thoroughly pissed off. It took me a long time to grow up :grinning:

There’s a way to ride a loud bike that’s not very loud, and then there’s riding like life is a race.

Crossing over from the charging thread

TBH the first reason I would not buy a Tesla is the terrible quality - not helped by Musk’s attitude that nothing must stop the production line even if there are significant problems with vehicles going out. This results in some cars leaving the factory that might as well have been built by a troop of chimpanzees.

Then there’s the fact that even if built correctly to the design that design cuts corners in important components like suspension (possibly better in the EU given better safety standards), finally there is the software and the retention of complete  control of your vehicle by Tesla. And all of that is before we get to the myth of “full self driving”.

After that there is Musk the man - need I say more?

But I agree it is difficult to find products with ethical manufacturers which is a significant problem these days - but there are better and worse and I know which end Musk and Tesla sit.

A lot of dinosaurs did. They all reached the end of their era though.

Yes I should have posted there, but i suppose no point reposting as it will just attract more political discussion rather than what I was looking for.

Regarding the unwanted attention of Teslas. It always surprises me the way people can carry out criminal damage of someone’s private property and it isn’t universally condemned by everyone else.
It’s a criminal act and should be punished with the full force of the law.

Although in the USA I can imagine there will be cases where if somebody is caught in the act, they sadly might end up paying the ultimate price.

The EU are still importing Russian energy, should we boycott all EU products because of that? How do you decide what is ok and what isn’t.

Arms to Israel is a huge business, are people ensuring their pension funds are not invested in these companies. They are directly benefiting from people’s deaths.
So while people will jump on the anti Musk bandwagon because it’s easy and fashionable most will be indirectly supporting much worse.

I was thinking of buying a second hand new version of the Landrover Discovery but there are literally none for sale in France.

It’s strange, you can order a brand new one, but none a single one from Landrover approved used in France.

They have lots of Discovery sports but no full size Discoveries.

Agree completely.

You consider your own moral position and throw in some pragmatism if you wish.

You are not wrong, of course

Where are your pension funds invested?

Bricks & Mortar.
And better still will still be there for iur children when we are 6 foot under.

From a pension fund perspective I have got no idea to be honest.

I buy Chinese products, putting their human rights issue to one side, the lithium in many of them is probably mined by children.

I watch sporting events and teams that are sponsored by countries with very dubious records on human rights.

I don’t agree with the way UK water companies are damaging our environment but I still turn on the taps everyday and pay my bills.

The list could go on about food and many other products or services.

And I bet most people are in the same position…

My point is, I think the anti Tesla stance because of Musk is a bit ridiculous and a bit hypocritical. But I also respect it’s a personal choice.

Hitler sponsored the VW beetle didnt he. We all make our choices

He did. I don’t think that necessarily makes Hitler good or the Beetle bad.
