Getting around new Youtube restriction on ad-blockers

Unusual YouTube behaviour?
When I click on YouTube, I sometimes get this message. I click on ‘I’m not a robot’ and it goes away.

I only watch YT via their app on my iPad.

I am signed in and can tolerate an add I can skip after 5 seconds and again at the 30 minute mark in an hour long video.

If it gets worse than that, I’ll find other totally free ways to watch.

Are you using a VPN, @Bonzocat ? That’s usually when I see that sort of message.

I’ve got Norton anti-virus protection which has secure VPN on. But that’s been on always.

Streisand Effect in full force…

It worked well for me too, for a while, but now YouTube is on to me again!

Same here, YouTube is now blocking AdGuard Adblocker (v 4.2.209).

YouTube is also detecting: Ghostery v8.12.3 and Malware Bytes Browser Guard v2.6.13.

Had a pop-up from Ghostery which advised running YouTube in a private / incognito window - not tried this yet as I’ve gone back to using Brave without being signed in to YouTube.

My blocking has started again. It’s been sporadic. I haven’t made any changes for some time. Ultimately using Share > Embed I can still watch what I want.

Yeah, I’m getting lots of pop ups today… they look like this rather than the “three strikes and you’re out” I originally got:

Luckily the time it takes that black circle in the top right corner to become a x that I can click to close the pop up is very short… much shorter than waiting for the “skip ads” button during an advert.

I’ve downloaded Brave and all seems to be well. Will use both Brave and Chrome …

Not sure how I did it, but I used Brave to download a YouTube app. link onto the desktop, so that when I want to use YouTube without ads I click on that.

For all other surfing, I use Chrome with AdGuard AdBlocker & Malwarebytes Browser Guard.

Seems to be working okay at the moment.

Does YouTube’s ad blocker restrictions violate the European Union’s online privacy laws?

Ruh-roh… YouTube is back to showing this today :sob:

I’m using Brave and am not having any YouTube problems, as yet!

Thanks, will give it a whirl.

Can someone please explain what Brave is? Thanks.

It’s a browser, like Firefox or Chrome, with a built-in and blocker.

Last time I used it with YouTube I had a blank screen and silence for the duration of the advert
