Very interesting! Iāve been using moisturiser for many years and now, age seventy, my face is still virtually wrinkle free, apart from bags under the eyes (which is why they make RayBans). OTOH my brother who is six years younger, has never moisturised and still smokes, has much āolderā, deeply lined skin (though he has annoyingly managed to keep his hair).
Nevertheless, if moisturiser can stave off dementia, Iāll be very happy!
Hope so. I always thought gaunt and wrinkly was an unhappy look. Perhaps it is anxiety that shortens life, and the furrowed face is just its billboard.
Being a cheerful sort of person⦠I reckon my wrinkles are laughter lines and totally unavoidableā¦

Same here in Corsica we are at 31 / 32 degrees and we have been staying inside in the pm with the shutters down. Donāt bother with a/c except at night in the bedroom. But we do go outside from 18h to 20h with apĆ©ro and a dip in the pool!
Is it correct though? Aging of the skin be it alcohol or smoking wont have any effect if you are indoors wearing moisturiser?
Alternatively being in the sun creates vitamin D which is essential for your immune system and for cell repair. The real benefits are numerous.
Meanwhile the journalist can spend her time under factor 50 and developing rickets, heart disease etc.
Common amongst covid sufferers in Italy was low vitamin D. As for inflamation. Seing as most western diets promote inflamation without the sun and vitamin D to help you get a double whammy. Humans will die out through daftness and marketing BS.
As I have aged so has my perception of attractiveness. And wrinkly faces can be so beautiful. Young peopleās skin is truly lovely as a thing, but overall
I prefer looking at faces that are more lived in. As long as they donāt look like orange shoe leather of course.
You reminded me of a quote about Keith Richards face, not looking so much lived in as squatted. ![]()
I am supposed to keep out of the sun due to recent health issues. So I go walking in the morning before it gets too hot, and a brief laze around outside after 18h, in the shade.
I was told that during chemo. Thankfully all in the past now.
Life and its truths lie etched on our faces. Miserable or happy, an elderly face can attract or frighten off others without even a word spoken. I am always amazed at how much nicer most everyone looks when they smile!
Madge from Benidorm spring to mind there.
I was thinking of a recent mug shot of a septuagenarian.
Could I ask a favour from anyone sweltering away with a swimming pool on site? Could you take the temperature on the bottom of the pool please, strap the thermometer to a pool cleaning pole or similar. Just trying to see the difference from the 30-40c + air temp to the deepest part of the pools. Thanks in anticipation.
Sorry I didnāt read this yesterday!
Today we have thunder storms, so best not standing by the pool with a ling metal pole. ![]()
Yesterday was a hot day of 38C and the pool was a delicious 28C at the surface shady end. I didnāt check the deep temp.
Forecast here is for a week of temp in the low twenties, so may not be useful for you but the following week itās back up to 30C and sunny. Would a check then be useful to you?
What a delightfully refreshing day! Cloudy and risk of storms - never thought Iād come out with that with a smile on my face
Immediately feeling more energised to get on with a number of chores! And even better news is that it looks like more of the same tomorrow ![]()
Any measurements would be very helpful, as you say at the surface its great but your feet and ankles may say different. A bit like under floor heating, feet and ankles feel warm tells your head its warm. Thank you, any measurement would be great. ![]()
[Swimming pool temperature was 30 degrees at the surface and 29 on the floor. ](https://Swimming pool temperature was 30 degrees at the surface and 29 on the floor. )
Thanks Nici, thats a good mix of water you have there! I suspect others are not quite as good. I will also check my own in 3 weeks but we dont in the Loire, usually get the kind of temperatures people are reporting this year.
My friend is fair skinned and always wears factor 50 skin cream. He worked in Saudi and Hong Kong for several years but never went in the sun. But he got skin cancer, twice, and has very large grafts on his body as a result. He was told that itās probably what happened to him as a child that caused the damage that lead to his cancer. Adults know the dangers and can take action, sadly their children donāt and canāt.
