Severe Faceache

Only the one David mentioned

I still have a copy. Bought it for teaching bits in HKG.

The Aussie word is naughty, but then they are :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Dentists can prescribe antibiotics for oral infections, so I don’t know why one would need to see a doctor.
Having said that when I had sinus pains my dentist took a pan oral x ray and showed the infections which were causing 7pm to me.
I told my doctor about them and she was totally surprised that dentists could do that.
Mind you, if you have been following the saga of me and my MT, you should not be surprised.

Never had a problem here getting a dentist to issue a prescription for an antibiotic.

As always…
I tell of situations of which I am personally aware, when the Dentist would NOT prescribe… (I was warning of a possible problem for David…)
France is a large country… there are bound to be discrepancies.

Judging by the symptoms described by @David_Spardo , perhaps better to get an emergency appointment today… at ones own Doctor, than faff around trying to locate a Dentist… in my view…
but I’ll leave you all to chew this over…

How long ago? There used to be a difference between a chirurgienne-dentiste and a dentiste, but that went a few years back.

Exactly. On Friday my dentist removed a wisdom tooth and prescribed me a weeks worth of antibiotics.

Health A to Z
Medicines A to Z

Dafalgan ® is a medicine based on paracetamol. It is typically Indicated for mild to moderate pain relief in cases such as fever and muscle pain.
Please check the dosage on the Medication Box; Read the Patient Information Leaflet.

UPSA : historical specialist in the fight against pain

Pharmaceutical company UPSA has always specialized in pain relief. After launching Dafalgan® as the first paracetamol-based medicine in capsule form in 1985, UPSA continued its R&D, and in 2004 launched Dafalgan® in the form of 1000 mg film-coated tablets. Today, Dafalgan® is offered in an even wider range of dosage forms, including effervescent tablets and suppositories. With these developments, it is perceived by consumers as an efficacious and trustworthy brand that is widely recommended by doctors and pharmacists. In 2019, Taisho Holdings added this and other UPSA products to their lineup.

The dentist that I have booked with for February did xray my jaw a few years ago so I don’t know if that makes him up to date or not, but anyway, I can see the doctor much sooner, I think tomorrow, so I will see what he can do. After all the problem is not strictly speaking with my teeth, it is the long vacant gums to the left of them. The swelling is on the outside of the gum pressed against the inside of my cheek. I have taken 2 pills at 11 pm and that has stopped the pain and I will have a couple in a yoghurt pot along with a small bottle of water just in case it returns to wake me later. On the 2 hour rule that should take me beyond 1am, long before I think I will need them. I have taken the precaution of not putting the box next to the bed.

PS @bibi_lindsay I will check your links out tomorrow, off to bed now.

I think you should go to A&E to get it checked. I live in the UK, and I am on night duty on my break.

When I visit France and had any issues health-wise, I would visit Boulogne Sur Mer Hospital Center.
As a nurse, I would call out the GP if any of the residents were in your situation.

It was certainly before Covid, so at least 3 years… and things might well have changed.

But it’s a pity David didn’t go to his Doctor before trying to find a Dentist… another day wasted.

A really nasty night, 6 pills, at approved intervals, before I could settle down. I even opened the front shutters so that Christine the Aide could get in if I was incapable. She will be here at 9 and no doubt telling me off too.
My only excuse is that being ill and in pain is entirely alien to me, I have been so lucky in my life on that score.

A&E is not really an option @bibi_lindsay, I certainly wasn’t fit for a 50 kms drive in my condition, and troubling the Pompiers was also not an option, I didn’t consider myself that urgent.

Christine will leave at 10 and I have the small weekly shop to do, just butcher and baker, and I will be up to the doctor’s asking for an urgent visit.

Perhaps visit the Doc first… and if you find it hard to speak… have it written down and ready to hand over… possibly the Doc might see you immediately (more or less) certainly worth a try…

best of luck

And Christine, a surprise to me, says it is possible that the pharmacy will give out anti-biotics, but it will be the cabinet first.

What were the intervals between these doses of tablets?

2 at 11pm, 2 at 2am and 2 at 4am, in agony. Haven’t needed one since and the swelling has at last deflated. No pain.
Waited at the phamacy for ages to be told no anti-biotics without an ordonnance, waited for ages at the cabinet to be told (after they at first forgot me) no rdvs available. I said I’ll come back tomorrow it is no longer urgent.
I’ll see how I feel. Although this is the worst I have had it is par for the course for my body to heal itself.

That’s too close for Paracetamol there should be 4-6 hours between doses You might want to get advice about that sort of dosing

You’re right, I must have misread or misunderstood the advice given more than once above. I was labouring under the misunderstanding that it was 1 or 2 every 2 hours. Good job it seems to have cleared up then, although, having now been put right, I would not have continued at that rate.

Just to re-iterate, I have not needed, and have not taken, any capsules since 4am today, thus over 10 hours ago.

Thanks to everyone for the good advice and maybe it shows that extreme pain can confuse understanding and memory.

I’m so glad if you are feeling better. I do hope you will still try to see the MT tomorrow. Whatever it was, you need to know. And goodness knows, it may have gone ‘underground’ to cause more trouble later.

Kind professional advice from Lizzie1 about not taking too many Paracetamol and at too high a dose. Your poor liver!!
