Smart TV problem

Not being asked for anything, once they have detected the Livebox, the keyboard then appears, as if I know what I am supposed to be doing with it. I believe I have a password somewhere too, perhaps that is what they afer after, it it isn’t what the new computer wanted, it wanted the key.

Just noticed @Gareth’s reply, I’ll do it, slowly on the double digits, with upper case letters, If that doesn’t work I’ll go and search for a passwrod.

You can always request a new password from NETFLIX

Sounds like it wants your WiFi password - Ah, I see this is indeed the case.

If you have forgotten this (or can’t get the TV to accept it) the quickest way to get the TV connected, if it is possible, is to use an Ethernet cable - that won’t need a password, and you can hunt out the documentation (and/or check the bottom of the Livebox) at your leisure.

We’ve just set up a new PC (Samsung 55AU9000) - it seems most of the streaming services has realised no-one can remember passwords, they all give you a code to enter from an existing device.

It’s the connection to the Livebox that I can’t get, not to Netflix.
Just tried again leaving the pauses as Brian suggested and with all the letters in upper case.
It was going well, even a couple of doubles worked with the pauses, until I got to the last group of 4 letters FFCC, and it simply won’t record the 2nd F or C. So failed again.

I do have an ethernet cable but am loathe to use it, especially as this isn’t urgent at the moment, as it means dragging it across 2 rooms, been there done that, very inconvenient.
So I’ll go and hunt the wifi password and see what happens then.

No, fail again. If only the bloody thing could tell me what it wanted I could satisfy it.

Got to go, need a swim and then feed the dog then get my own dinner prepared.

@graham 30 with the key or 8 with the Orange password.

@Gareth Ok but it will have to be later, getting well behind at the moment.

Thanks all, I’ll report back later.

Yes, I know I am answering posts below me but the 3 post rule, remember?

how many characters are you typing in?

You can change the password to something shorter and easier to type if you log on to the router using your laptop. The address to type into your web browser is: http://192.168.1.1.

Once logged on, navigate to WiFi, then select “Type de sécurité” as WPA2 Personal from the drop down menu, and change the value in the “Clé de Sécurité” to something easier.

or use connect your equipment in wifi with the WPS

In David’s case that would only be a temporary solution if he can’t maintain the connection. When the cable is removed, he would have to reset it to use WiFi…

Great perseverance skills :grinning:

The Livebox passwords are often shown with spaces in order to, misleadingly in my view, make it ‘easier to read’.

These spaces are NOT required in the password so skip over the spaces and enter the next digit. You’ll then find that you have enough spaces for the entire password.

Back again, that was a lovely swim but, due to the windy day, loads of leaves to sweep from the surface.
I missed out swimming earlier, usually have at least 2 a day but, untrusting of delivery services other than La Poste I daren’t leave sight of the gate in case the tv delivery went back to Bordeaux, it has happened.

Can’t agree about the spaces Brian, I do need them and even find phone numbers difficult. I always list my own in twos and usually with a fullstop between each.

Anyway, I did not leave spaces each time, I did them in one long 30 digit string.

Looked at that WPS @graham and it seems I don’t have the right Livebox, I thought they upgraded them automatically, this certainly isn’t my first.

Bit worried about changing passwords @Gareth, if it still didn’t work I am then saddled with yet more numbers to remember.

Can’t understand why it was so easy a month or so ago with the new computer, other than the fact that I was typing on a proper keyboard instead of this very labour intensive virtual one with a remote control.

@billybutcher The ethernet cable would only be for one thing, Netflix, and as I am not a great user of that, the trouble of snaking it all round the place would not be worth it.

Off again, dinner to cook and then eat now. Oh, and see if Fran wants something or nothing, but getting an answer would be handy.

I thought the WiFi password was only the first 8 digits of the serial number of the device…

First I’ve heard of that @graham, it did have a differrent password when I got the first one years ago but I changed it twice for some reason, but the original wasn’t anything like the security key.

ISTR they changed it to that arrangement later…
In the early days, they wrote to you with the key…
We fell foul of that whist waiting for the letter to arrive, we spoke to a technician who gave us the key but his French accent got us muddled with the difference between G and J

If your Livebox is through two rooms the WifFi signal might not be great for Netflix

Powerline Ethernet *might* be an option - but it’s best if the two outlets used are on the same circuit.

Same distance as with the computer, and Netflix works fine on that, does that make a difference?

Should be fine then

Followed this advice and arrived at an Orange site in English. Before searching further to change my password I notice a ‘breaking news’ panel top right. This was what @graham had suggested yesterday about only the first 8 digits of the key being the password now.

So back to the tv and tried that, first without the space between each 4 and then with a space. All to no avail again, even though to the left it shows that my Livebox has been automatically detected although, admittedly, with a less than fulsom connection logo.

So is this the problem? That the wifi is too weak on this tv to connect to a router only 6 metres away? :astonished:

Tried several times to get help from Hyundai, also from Amazon, nothing, so I asked a question on the page of Amazon.fr where I bought the thing and have had one reply so far saying that they had no problem but that they had heard that others had had to try several times.

Next step is a ‘chat’, in French, with Amazon.fr Customer Contact and, if all else fails, @billybutcher’s suggestion of the ethernet cable, but that is the last gasp because of the difficulty of putting it in place and the danger of being tripped over.

what about moving the telly closer initially to get it registered then back to its original pride of place?
ISTR I had a similar problem with WiFi between our deadbox and the Samsung Smart TV which were quite close to each other (but separate rooms) and when I moved the telly out a bit partly into the doorway so there was a clear line of sight - it worked…

Before I reply to that @graham I have explored further on that Orange site and it appears that the password I set years ago is no longer valid (why didn’t someone tell me?) but that, as you say, the first 8 digits are.
So I requested Customer Support, not available, Live box Support, not available and quickly going nowhere.

Now to your post. I’ll see what I can stretch various cables too and open a door, and get back to you.

Failed again, this with the tv 2 metres in plain sight no obstructions from the Livebox. Even rebooted that into the bargain. albeit accidentally.

Next step Amazon ‘chat’ I think. Maybe the bloody thing is faulty.
