Even our local agri co-op has removed the “non essentials”…they’re not going to present any competition for town centre shops.
I find it all a bit bollocks, frankly…still, at least I’m not in UK
What I did find first time round was that I could find alternatives for lots of things, or manage without. It is only 4 weeks (at the moment…) after all. Would your 6 yr old accept concept of an IOU rather than line the pockets of Jeff Bezos? Never too young to learn the importance of mindful consumerism.
Much better quality in H&M anyway
The idea is that there is equality between big supermarket chains and small shops who are already struggling/closing down due to the first lock-down. Obviously, on-line companies are also competing and profiting from the situation but at least it is one less source of competition. Some small shops are continuing on a ‘click and collect’ basis around here (Lyon area) which means that they can continue to survive as they are no longer in competition with the local supermarket chains for clothes, books etc. We are lucky as we have a mini garden centre (my husband is a horticulturist) and we can open, even if it is a quiet month.
And also…unless you have been out on the piss for 48 hours over New Year and need an emergency ‘outfit’ - think shiny ‘drinking’ shirt or black lace hooker top, who on earth buys their clothes in supermarkets anyway?
Plus lego / books / plants are all cheaper / better choice / healthier elsewhere (online or in specialist outlets) anyway so I honestly can’t see the issue…
A what?
You don’t now?
From what I gather from my female partner and friends, clothes shopping in the UK supermarkets is very different to French ones
Something like a belt, maybe😉
Somebody must, surely, otherwise they would not bother to stock clothes.
I have certainly bought clothes in French supermarkets, not often I admit but we stopped in the Guérande Leclerc on the way to or from somewhere or other and wound up coming out with a leather jacket and a 9€ shirt (which I even wore to work a couple of times and is still in the “tatty shirts to wear when working around the house” pile, as is one I got from Gamm Vert (though to be fair that one was specifically bought to go in the “tatty shirts” pile, though it gets occasional promotion to the “shirts to wear when travelling” pile).
A top wot is worn by ladies of the night.
Think Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.
They often stock the matching boots too.
If not, try DefiMode or Defihooker as it is known in our house
I live a sheltered life.
It would appear that my wife has also led a sheltered life - when I asked her what a Hookers Top was - she thought it was something worn when playing rugby!
(it makes me a little proud!)
Well I thought it was something to do with crochet!
Swapped sun for rain then !
eBay … I once bought 13 pr Y-fronts for £3.50 inc p n p. They were described as 'new other: slightly soiled’. I was the only person [presumably] with the wit to ask what ‘slightly soiled’ meant.
“Found them in a box at the back of the warehouse - just a bit dusty”. My bid of £1 got them.
12 prs white. 1 pr red. I put them all in the wash together and all the whites came out flamingo pink …
Boxer shorts for night wear - 15 prs £20. Not from China, either - Manchester.
Brooks Bros/Pierre Cardin/Aquascutum jackets - £25-30 …
On Sat 31st I bought a Peugeot 307 SW on the eBay.uk description - a trade-in at £995. True to Peugeot form it’s first two days back in FR were spent having 1020€ repairs.
Eh!? How come three? Sorry…
A family business near Castres, mail order. Not cheap but very good products…
I believe that related to a Tesco store that took it upon themselves to block sanitary products. The government and Tesco swiftly declared that this was an incorrect interpretation and the barriers were removed.
Are you sure that wasn’t Manchuria
