I was born in '55. I do know I ain’t as fit as I once was, but, so far so good, touch wood, grace a dieu, etc etc. I still do have some of the wander bug inside me.
I think I might start a thread about travel generally and see if it attracts much attention? At least we few won’t be disturbing this thread.

During the night there was a brief period where a strong, cool wind blew through the house, and we awoke to find it wet outside. The valley opposite was filled with martins and swifts that appeared to be feeding on newly active insect life.

According to meteo the weather is going to be cool and damp for the next couple of days.

Good idea, I’ll look forward to it.

@Ancient_Mariner that is usually my first inkling of rain and even storm, but I didn’t feel it last night though earlier in the evening as I was finishing working in the forest it was quite strong and welcome. But although it is still dry outside there is a lot of cloud overhead. I would welcome it but without a dangerous downpour I could get on with my forest programme so am somewhat torn.

No I’m not, we really need rain.

Ooo…we went tosee my daughter in Hanoi (where she was working) and went up to Sapa. So nice and remember well the Butter Waffellos (Buffalo) and the terraces (just like the terraces here but without butter waffello).

It’s been damp and cool of late where I am, and last night I heard squabbling hedgehogs in the garden, and wondered how they were coping in the heatwaves. I didn’t see them in the dark, but this morning I saw a flattened hedgehog on the road, unfortunately, but which suggests that hedgehogs, or some at least, have indeed survived the dryness and heat.

Joy of joys. The thermometer on the terrace in the shade says 20 degrees for the first time in 3 months. We have a gentle drizzle, which (with luck) will last all day. I have the window to my study wide open and I’m sitting at my computer and not sweating.

Normal service is resumed here, lots of rain last night and a fair bit this morning. Thankfully it wasn’t torrential so the ground is coping with it, but the trees are dropping their leaves in large quantities.

Same here, fingers crossed it does, you can feel the earth exhale, what a relief.

Not here, the promised rain never appeared. But on the brighter side it allowed me to conquer a particularly difficult frame for the doorway of the hide. Not helped by one bit missing and the right bit too short. Fortunately I am an inventive kind of bloke when push comes to shove and success was my reward in spite of a near tumble from the top of the stepladders.

Did @toryroo give you permission to climb the stepladder David ? If not, don’t tell her. She’ll tell you off else !

:cloud_with_rain: :cloud_with_rain: :cloud_with_rain: :cloud_with_rain: :cloud_with_rain: here…yummy

We too - steady drizzle virtually all day. Such a relief. The garden is just loving it.

Water butts filling up and I ran a hose from one of the butts down to the underground water tank by the cottage, so it was benefitting from the rain off the roof of the cottage and off the roof of the house. Still more rain promised for tonight and tomorrow. And (if we are lucky) more during the week. We should now have enough water to see us through the rest of the summer.

And it’s going to be cool at night - 14 degrees Saturday morning!

We ain’t seen nothng yet!
Seems that a super El Nino is currently developing and that 2027 will globally be the hottest year on record. Reported on many www sites.

We finally had some decent rain. Only 4mm but it’s a start and will have helped the water butts.
