I’m hoping so, perhaps tomorrow but they’re all elderly and without electricity right now so I don’t want them checking on my place until conditions improve, it’s not like they can do anything if the roof is missing.

Thankyou that’s a very very kind gesture. The electric has just come back on and from what I can see from the camera’s it looks like the Gaza Strip in terms of debris, tiles, shutters, roof panels etc all over the shop (apologises but I right now I’m gutted and can’t find better words).
I’ll get someone close by to take a look tomorrow, I’ll give you a shout if I’m stuck, thanks again.
Over here in Blighty (Surrey, specifically), I think we missed the worst of it - though the South-West, south coast and especially the Channel Islands (honorary Bretons) seem to have been hammered. It seems the storm veered a bit further south than forecast, hence both sides of La Manche bore the brunt.

Our barometer went down so low this morning it was off the scale - but it was eerily still as I think the “eye” of Ciaran came over the top of us at about 10am.

Well I was right about never taking weather for granted. The wind got up very strong and I ended up in my dressing gown with orthopaedic shoes on and a crutch just in case I was blown over, putting the recycling bin on it’s back, chasing a plastic dustbin we use for garden rubbish and other items about in the middle of the night. However, no rain so no puddles or mud to contend with. You would not have known it this morning as clear blue skies and no clouds and no wind whatsoever.
Can I send you my laundry… so it can drip-dry in your sunshine…

Its flattening out the closer we get to Newhaven. Hopefully settling down for your longer crossing, not that it affects me, just too insensitive

I may be one of the nearest on here to Carentan and should be able to get there in around half an hour if you need anyone on the ground.
I want to say how very sorry I am - Carentan got it badly because the further up the peninsula you are the worse it was and you are quite a bit north of me. Am thinking of you, as I imagine all of us are…

Almost solid rain and spray all the way to Poitiers and back this morning with Drako the Dobermann. The tentative plan to leave my dog, Jules, in the pension for the morning because Drako was reportedly hostile to males, was shelved when we saw that the 2 of them got on fine together.
I was pleased that they had because all I wanted to do was get back home and wouldn’t have welcomed the diversion to collect our boy.
The only break in the awful weather was briefly after leaving on the return when the sun burst out from behind a cloud. But if I was feeling aggrieved at having nothing to moan about, the glare of it coupled with the dimming of the dash lights when the lights are on, prevented me from seeing what I had set the cruise to in order to keep legal on the rapidly changing speed limits of the N10. 
No real worries apart from the very few times the drive wheels started to aquaplane for a split second, knocking the cruise off and giving a very good impression of engine failure.

I feel desperately sorry for those who were badly affected. After a night of 105kph winds, it was a huge relief, and pleasant surprise to find no real damage, and even to have power… Minor irritation - we still have no internet/ phone signal (I’m sending this from a neighbouring valley that does have 4g) more than 24 hours after the storm…

Sorry I was exchanging msg’s with AngelaR who as you know is also pretty local. A friend visited this morning and yes there’s quite a lot of damage, the barn/shed roof isn’t there any more (partly) but that’s not important as that was already scheduled as a project for 2024 anyway, numerous tree’s down including an Oak tree blocking the entrance gates luckily it didn’t make contact with anything, then it’s fence panels and shutters.
The main concern is the main house roof, most of the roof ridge cap flashing has disappeared along with a goodly amount of slate tiles too, so water getting in is my worry. Finding someone to help is going to be difficult if not impossible. It’s not merely a case of throwing a tarpaulin over either as the area is not confined to a small area.
So we’re pretty upset to be honest.
