What are you up to this week?

Hi Lily
Thank you
I occasionally “poke my head round the door”, so to speak, but have rarely posted in recent times.
I will try to visit a bit more often.
Best wishes to you.

Yes, I am hoping to hit up a larger grocery on my way down to Limoges to pick up essentials for Night One (diné moi, diné chiens at the very least. Starting to use Google maps now to find something to hit up after 10am and before noon. EDIT: looks like there is a SUPER Intermarche in Nanterre off the A86 about 44 minutes (theoretically) from CDG. :crossed_fingers:t2:

Srsly, right? It will all be worth it. (fingers, toes, knees, ankles, and eyes crossed…)

Thank you!

@SuePJ on the two occasions I have had colonoscopies, I found the sleep was the best, never felt so refreshed on waking up

That was to SuePJ, but I wish you a very good trip across and a gentle easing in to France @DrSukie

When we first started going there, the supermarkets were all shut on Sundays, and if you travelled Saturday arriving late, finding something to eat next day without dining out could be challenging, especially in a rural location. France is MUCH easier now for 7 day shopping, although bank holidays can still catch us out.

Last day in Hawaii. Specifically on the island of Kauai. Next stop Canada. Interesting visit. Last time I was here we stayed on the big island. Looking out of the window I can see frigate birds and albatrosses. I swim in the ocean most days along with the turtles. It rains almost every day. Yesterday I went for a walk in the dense tropical forest. The bird life is colorful and varied. There are chickens every where. In Hawaii every island is different,

We’re hoping to be off to a nearby town - 20km away, but in the next département, 79 - to have our new number plates fitted.

It’s been a bit of a comedy. We ordered via Nor Auto, a national firm kindly recommended by @Susannah iirc. They didn’t have a branch near us, so it was Chinon or Thouars, both in different départements to us. All done online, I thought.

Followed a panicked phone call from the Thouars branch, which we’d chosen.

« We can’t do plastic plaques. You’ll have to have aluminium. »

« Okay. »

« Oh, and you’re in 86. I’ll have to order the plaques specially … »

« I’ll let you know if I can do it. »

When I imported my previous car from Germany the Paris based importing company were unable to provide Aveyron plaques (obviously little demand for them up there) and so we were given regional ones instead

I didn’t want to be running around on Paris plates so changed to 86 but I just ordered from a local garage and it was sorted in a couple of days.

…drove back from Netherlands yesterday and arrived early evening after a 13 hrs drive (back on A7 Rue du Soliel along with loads of Dutchies in their caravans…)…

Anyway,…today, put up my scaffold to fix a gutter at 9m height) (job done) and now will move it along to fix a missing bote a eau and downpipe at 12m height… yikes!

Will spend most of the the next couple of months fixing stonework and repointing the walls …what fun!

As a teenager I was mad about Elvis and “Blue Hawaii” and would swirl around the room doing my own version of those swaying dances…

Then a friend brought me back an authentic grass skirt, I think it was from Hawaii ??

Floor length and so thick and heavy… no way I could do any dancing in that…
It made me realise that films are great fun but not too close to reality

We’re currently pointing at ground level but there’s definitely a scaffolding purchase in my (near) future

John… scaffolding really expensive here in France and I purchased this rig second-hand from some enterprising chaps based in mid West of France who will deliver. They import the kit from across La Manche. Let me know if you need more details.

We bought all ours from the UK back in the early 90’s, over 300 pieces of all lengths plus all the clips and locks and used to charge clients a small charge when used to cover time spent building and transporting. A local forgeron also ran up some 6m lengths to the same diameter and sealed one end etc for a reasonable price. When OH died, I donated it all to the local primary school for their collecte de ferraille and it boosted their funds no end but took several dads a couple of days to collect and transport it all. The metal boards which we got here as the wooden ones got dangerous, I let our neighbour have to use for cutting his high hedge. My OH would never use french scaffolding, he did not feel safe on it and usually it just hung off the guttering too.
